Evangeline
"Where is Sebastian?" The King asks from his chair in the table. The breakfast has started but everyone hasn't eaten anything yet. It's such a disgrace for them not to eat the blessing they were given in front of them while some of us, their loyal subjects, are struggling of hunger and fatigue just to make their food.
I'm standing behind Queen Mary, as for I am her handmaiden. Her other handmaidens recently just got fired because she humbly chose to serve herself. I assume she didn't want my service earlier, but I think she was trying her hardest not to shoo me off so she accepts. She must've mistook me as one of Queen Katherine's spies, as for I have heard they have a none-growing relationship.
"He is not hungry, as he has told me, my King." A servant responds. "But if kindly, he wants to have his breakfast in the covered courtyard, alone."
"How rude of him." Queen Katherine mutters. The King glares at his wife.
"Evie. Send some food for my son, Sebastian, then." The King suddenly says.
"But she's my handmaiden." The Queen Mary denies.
"No, she's an all-around handmaiden so she takes orders from anyone who is a Royal."
I must say, the King has gone mad. Killing him is so reasonable.
Hansel appears behind me in a second with a tray of breakfast.
"Send that to my son."
I accept the tray from Hansel and leave the dining room without any excuses. Surely, Sebastian is dealing with something difficult that I may help. My heart flutters in happiness over the fact that I'm gonna be seeing him again.
I arrived in the covered courtyard. The place was intended to train soldiers, but was now only for the Royals since a new courtyard has been recently built.
Set of swords hung on the wall like family portraits. Sebastian is fencing in the middle of the yard without an opponent.
I knock on the doorless pathway and he stops in a defensive position to glance at me.
"Breakfast, my Lord." I walk up to a table and place the tray beside a combat knife. The knife's blade is bevelled with a Latin phrase.
"You can call me Bash, or bastard as what some would taunt me."
"I have no right to taunt a Royal's son because therefore, I'd be beheaded in no less than a second if I do so." I reply, walking towards him with my hands shyly intertwined on each other in front of me.
The scent of musk is too irresistible since I am now in front of him and he's drenched in his own sweat.
"Let's talk about your village." He starts.
"No, let's talk about the Assassin," I corrected, fiercely. He smirks, never taking his eyes off me. I was in the mood to fight so I snatch his sword from his hold. "As we fight."
"You're not just a peasant girl, are you?" He says in a low vulnerable voice. "Tell me, was there even an Assassin...?" He begins to walk around me. I stand still like a prey in a trap.
There's no way out now. There's only two ways to do: kill him or tell him.
"I've researched about your mark. Read a couple of books. And I found something about you said was a lie." The air becomes breezy when I feel hands snake through my waist.
I giggle, enjoying the sensation. "Speak freely, please."
He yanks my arm from my side and flips it, showing me my own mark. "You are a member of the Assassins Organization."
A breathy sigh comes out like a delighted moan from my mouth when he rakes his fingers on the small of my back.
"You killed my men back at that village of ruins because there was no other way to escape and continue your mission, your mission to assassinate my father, the King Henry himself."
I was about to jerk away from his hold when he tightens around me. I could kill him now, with his own sword. But for the sake of my heart's wellbeing I rather not.
"Tell me, Assassin, who sent you?"
"Myself."
"For what reasons?"
"Because I am bound to kill. Bound to assassinate rulers who've gone mad like your father and I am not bound to fall in love with a-" he turned me around and smashed his lips on mine, cutting my speech. He lifts me up and I wrap my legs around his torso as he pins me against a wall.
"Say it." He whispers with pants of breath. "That you are not bound to fall in love with a hell of a handsome bastard."
I departed from the kiss and stare at his red pure lips, then to his crystallite eyes.
"Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. Isn't that your Creed?" He whispers without pulling away.
"It is, and I suppose the idea of seducing me to make me confess would be successful, and so it did."
"No, seducing you was neither a part of my plan to make you confess." He explains. "It was another a plan of mine, a plan to make you confess that you're falling in love with me."
My head spins for a moment and my Mentor's voice echoes in my thoughts with my own words. You are married to the people and your service is to them, not to your heart's commands.
But I'm not a goddamn nun, I can love whoever I want. This is just not the right time and the right place for love.
There's nothing written on my face but regret. That I shouldn't be doing this because I made a promise to myself that I will reunite with Alexander, for we might start over again as either normal cousins or lovers.
I parted away from his hold, "I should go back. Eat your breakfast or you'll starve." I say, grabbing the bread filled with strawberry jam on the breakfast tray and taking a large bite on it disrespectfully. "Or I could devour it myself, if you want. You're not the only one who hasn't eaten yet, you know."
I chose to stay a little while longer since he looks as pleased to have me around.
"Devour it even. A lady's stomach is much more important than a bastard's."
With a mouth full of bread, I say, "a bastard is a curse word. And you don't look like a curse word to me."
"What do I look like then?"
I shrug, taking my leave. "A blessing, my Lord. Good day."
