Evangeline

"I killed him."

"Who?"

"Alexander."

Julius's back muscles clench and his whole body freezes for a minute. I harden my fists on my sides and let fear crawl into my body. I deserve this, I deserve the pain I have given him, and the death I've brought upon Alexander. Sebastian killed him because of me, but I'm the one who needs to be punished for their sins, not Sebastian. Because if it weren't for me, Alexander wouldn't have left the world so soon.

I just drew my own mistakes into an art of destruction.

It's as though I've become Alice in Wonderland. Julius's body looked like it had grown twice its size and I've shrank into an ant.

I say it again, and it comes out like a child's stutter. "I... Killed... Your brother. My cousin."

Because of the deficiency of lighting in the room and if it weren't for the moon it'd be completely dark, I see his blank expression on a nearby vanity mirror.

I eye his sword lying alone on the edge of the bed. It has the Knight's Cross bevelled on its blade and hilt. I waited for him to snatch it and stab it perfectly onto my chest. But he didn't. He remained as stiff as dead.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" I almost shouted at him. "Just kill me already."

He turns around, one slow step at a time. I step forward and even served him the sword. "Kill me with it. There's no point in living anyway if-"

He has pinned me back against the wall that my head tremored through the hard impact. He placed his mouth roughly onto mine and groped my back closer. It's like winter has returned with a dangerous blizzard coming from the North.

I kiss back, I couldn't handle it. I taste Alexander's mouth more than Julius's own. And we all know the fact how incestuously in love I am to my dear dead cousin.

He slides my gown off my shoulders as he moves his kisses down to my chest. I try to avoid moaning but it's too difficult. Correction: it's too damn good.

With the sensation transforming quickly into a fire, I can't help but giggle like a virgin when he moved me to the bed.

He bore into my eyes for a moment, and I did the same to his. I think to myself: 'this isn't Julius, this is Alexander'. "I always wondered why the other men find you so beautiful. And then..." He traipse his fingers from my shoulders, to my thighs. "Now I know why."

I walk towards Kenna, who's pleasantly enjoying the view of the castle over a balcony. "Good evening, my Lady." I slide beside her. She giggles softly, throwing me a mischievous glance.

"To you as well, my Lord." She greets back. She hangs her hand around my back. I decide not to shoo it away this time for I don't wanna hurt her feelings. Ever since we got married she has been growing to love me. It's such a misfortune, my love already belongs to another.

"Are you gonna ask me if I know where your precious Evie is or..?"

I laugh nervously. "Aren't you a mind reader, Miss Kenna."

"I am in fact, as what my friends would say." She beams. I smile back.

"Your smiles are brighter than the stars above."

"You can't fool me, Bash. Anyways, I talked the Assassin about the strange encampments in the woods. That might be the place where she's headed."

What? In this very night? "Is she alone?"

"I hope so."

Some guards keep me company as I patrol every aspect of the roads out of the castle. We didn't bring any horses, only the courage to use stealth. Luckily these men were trained by Evie.  "Secure every perimeter, men. If you see a camp or soldiers, report to me immediately." I only say in a whisper.

"Yes, sir." All of them respond silently as well. We begin to split up like the parts of a star. I head to north, and put on my hood. I decided it'd be a good idea to finally wear the Assassin cloak Nostradamus made for me.

Nostradamus has been cloning weapons and materials with only the confusing blueprints Evie had made with her structured thoughts. He told me he tried his best to be an inventor for once since his only position is a physician.

Going back on focus to our search for Evie and the camp in the woods, I quickly jumped behind a pyramid of bushes when I hear drunk Englishmen rambling.

There they are, behind another group of bushes is the camp. I imagine Evie being grappled somewhere in the place. She must be inside one of the three red and white striped tents in the clearing, either being punished or interviewed.

Now that I've succeeded on putting Julius to a peaceful sleep, I came out of the room with what I wanted. I stole a few papers available in his chest. He's such a pure buffoon not to hide his stuff more safely. Well I am glad he doesn't think twice about it because he had just made my job a lot more easy.

I sigh in relief after closing my bedroom door and lean my back against the wooden structure. I read the unfolded paper in front of me silently. A smile quickly forms on my lips.

'My humblest General,
For the benefits of the Templar Order, gather your bestest troops and form an army as we compromise the Grand Castle of the Court of France. On the arrival of Fall, we will capture what is ours and give France it's rightful King.

May the Father of Understanding guide your wayward souls to the right road in seeking order and eliminating corruption.

Lastly,
Grandmaster Cesare Borgia'

I knock on the door thrice, and it opens immediately. Evie stares back at me with a pale expression. She grabs my wrist and pulls me inside. I chuckle, "I know you miss me so much but we can't skip to the kissing part-"

"Shut up." She snaps. After gunning the locks on the door she pushes me by the shoulder and almost pushed me off towards a table full of letters. "The past few weeks, I've been rummaging these in Julius's chambers." I pick one up and much to my dismay I slammed it back against the table after. "They're planning for an ambush. When Autumn arrives, they're gonna attack from the shadows."

"I'll go tell Francis." I was about to leave when her hand yanks me to halt.

"No. No one can know about this but us."

"But we can fight them with the sufficient amount of soldiers we've trained-"

"Hear me out for once, Sebastian! The Templars have been planning this for God knows when so it's much likely to be impossible to beat them." She pauses, and frowns down to the floor. "I know them, they're like rodents. They always know their way in."

"So we are doomed then."

"No. Just- let me figure out something. Come back in a few hours and I may finish up concocting a plan to stop the ambush completely."
