Chapter 10:
Why is it always raining? Eloise thought to herself sullenly. Zeb had paid for their clothes and brought them back to his apartment.
He had told her to wait in the living room; he had to contact several people. Let them know he wouldn’t be going to work tomorrow, see if maybe one of his sources heard anything about a black-haired Lolita, and all those things.
But Eloise did not want to wait. She already felt horribly guilty over forgetting her owner just like that.
She fingered the locket necklace she had started wearing to remind her what her main mission was.
And that was it. This was her mission. To protect and love and stay with her Mistress. And she had failed. She needed to go find Miss Madeline, now.
She looked over towards Zeb’s bedroom; he had only been in there twenty minutes. He probably wouldn’t be out for a while longer.
She crept over to the bags, and took out her favorite outfit.
It took a bit of work with her hands now paws, but she managed to work on the clothes. She added her knee pads, and the leash (that way people would know she belonged to someone).
She decided against taking anything else, or even leaving a note. It would take too long and she did not want to steal from Zeb. He had been so kind to her, but he was slowing her down on her quest.
With a longing look back, she quietly left.
It was out on the street, with the rain pouring down on her, that she wondered if this was truly the right choice.
Oh well, too late now, she thought with a shrug, and she walked away from Zeb’s.
---
The walls appeared to be moldy, but for a room which Eloise got in exchange for her doing some basic chores, it was good enough.
The Lattice Motel was not nearly as nice as it sounded it might be. In fact, it was downright trashy. But Eloise could not help that and she had no choice. She needed a place for the night.
It did help her out that she decided ahead of time to walk in on two legs. The leash would stay on, but most people knew that was just symbolic to show that she was currently under an Owner.
With her paws returned to their original human hands, she was the very picture of a Pup belonging to a much much higher standing family than the man behind the front desk.
He had been very much in awe of her till she said she couldn’t pay, saying her owner would take care of the bill in the morning.
He finally bent when she said she’d be willing to work for her room.
Which Eloise did, of course, she needed the room.
Had to hide from those anti-Pup groups, had to hide from the people who kidnapped Madeline, had to hide from Zeb if he came after her (though she doubted that).
It wasn’t raining was Eloise’s first thought.
Her second was even less profound: I really need to pee…
After necessary morning actions were done, she changed into her clothing for the day.
She had to admit, it was a gorgeous outfit consisting of the grey and black mottled jeans, a long sleeve black button up that had these cute little safety needles making out a tiny fringe for the pockets, her shoes were black verses while the laces were plaid. Her newly dyed tuft of hair was now a deep brown and it was adorned with an adorable little strawberry skull clip.
