Chapter five

~~~ Zach's Pov
We pulled up to the hunting supply shop or whatever you call it that Emily brought us too. "Matthew and I will check it out, to make sure it's clear" Emily told us as she grabbed her gun Matthew nodded and looked at us "don't kill each other while we're gone" he added as they left. We watched as the two of them crept towards the building, May and Cody were in back having their own conversations, I glared their way. "You really don't trust the huh"? Carly walked over to me and sat down "you do"? I asked her in return. "I mean Emily does have a point, we all have done terrible things and yet we forgave each other so why not do the same for them"? she looked back at them "they made a mistake and I think it's really hurting May" she continued.
"Good, she hurt Cassy" I crossed my arms angrily "she obviously regrets it, and your not going to tell me you haven't hurt someone" she shook her head annoyed just as Matt and Emily came back in through the door. "It seems clear but it's not secure, we shouldn't stay long" Emily told us once inside. "It does look like there is quite a bit of useful stuff in there though" Matt added "what're we waiting for then" Carly stood sending me a sharp look before walking past me. Cody and May reluctantly followed and I brought up the rear, we all cautiously walked into the building. There was ammo and weapons scattered about in different places, we all split up around the store grabbing whatever we could fit in our bags.
~~~Cassy's Pov
        I drove down the road watching the woods around me as I passed stray biters, and a few rusting vehicles left on the side of the road in a futile attempt to evacuate. I rummaged through the glove compartment and found a pack of gum, I smiled to myself "sweet" I said popping a piece into my mouth. No matter how much time ticked by as I drove down the endless roads, I still couldn't manage to find something to say once I found the others. I can't put it off forever, I know I need to talk to Cody and May. "If they haven't killed each other yet" I laughed shaking my head knowing how stubborn Cody used to be. May would always be the one to challenge others as well, however since I've seen her she's... changed. She used to be so happy and upbeat like Carly, now it just seems like that light has dimmed.
     My mind wandered and I now found myself thinking about the others, Emily and how she is so quick to trust people, she's always willing to give people a second chance but not to the point where she's naive. Carly and how she's always looking on the bright side, how she was quick to defend me and stand up for me. Matthew and how he is stubborn and doesn't like trusting people, yet he doesn't forget when you do something for him even he has began to warm up to me. Zach and how he was the first one I actually felt like I could trust since the others left me, he was there on he roof and when I thought I was gonna fall he was there to catch me and for some reason he's still there for if I find myself falling again.
   However a voice still inside me told me they would leave, somewhere deep down inside of me I knew I would keep distancing myself. I've only been alone for a day and a half and I already am losing it, I can't be this dependent on people. After all the terrible things I've seen I never thought I'd be able to trust anyone again. These guys are different though, they've showed me that not everyone is terrible and that there is still some good left in the battered remains of this world. Cody and May showing up didn't make things any easier that's for sure, yet here I am trying to decide what to say to them. I thought back to Bex and the day she died..
I sat there staring at the note, it has been two days since May and Cody left and I still couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that they're actually gone. A blood curdling scream from downstairs pierced the air and brought me away from my own grief. I darted out of the room forgetting my gun, I ran into the lobby to see Bex holding her side. A biter on the ground beneath her and a bloody knife in her hand, "Bex"! I ran to her. She reached up placing a blood covered hand on my shoulder, by doing this she revealed that her side was now covered in red sticky ooze. "Oh my god" I said sitting her down on the couch, "I cut it on the table" she began to say but as I lifted it up I saw a bite mark. I started to tear up backing away my hands covered in my best friends blood.
"That's not going to happen again" I said thinking of the others "I won't let it" I now had been driving for a while. I took one last turn and could see a small shop with a RV parked on the side. As I pulled up and slowed to a stop I expected them to come outside, but when they didn't I felt an unease settling in. I walked up to the door and opened it, I took out my knife cautiously looking around for the others. I could now hear Zach yelling, "I'm being dramatic" he yelled "yeah, yeah you really are" I could hear Cody scream back. "You shouldn't even be here" Zach retaliated, their voices getting louder as I walked to the back, I slipped my knife back into my pocket.
I came to a door way to see Zach and Cody in each other's faces and Emily, May, Matthew, and Carly trying to clam them. Suddenly Zach shoved Cody who in turn went to swing at him, I rushed forward and pushed them apart. "Stop it"! I yelled at them both, everyone stared at me in shock not realizing I was here. "What is wrong with you guys, I could hear you from outside your going to attract the attention of every biter and person for miles" I continued looking from one to the other. "Cassy"! Carly exclaimed hugging me, "when did you get here" Emily said walking over to where me and Carly stood "a couple minutes ago, but you couldn't hear me over all the screaming" I remarked glaring at Zach.
"Oh my god your hair" Carly announced loudly looking at my now short hair, "Uh yeah that biter nearly killed me by grabbing my hair so figured it was time for a change" I said shrugging my shoulders and running my hand through it. "I'm glad your okay" May said quietly and I gave her a weak smile. I need to talk to her but not now, I'll talk to her later tonight when we can talk alone. "I'm glad y'all all are okay" I said to everyone as a whole emphasizing the all, "So I was thinking we make camp here for the night" Matthew said cutting straight to the case "this place isn't that secure" Emily told me and by the silence from the others I guessed she and the others already discussed this.
"Let's check the roof, it keeps us safe from biters, and we can see the road on all sides" I offered looking around "we could probably find a way up there, we'll need something to start a fire though" I continued grabbing a chair nearby and slamming it down. The legs broke off "we don't have to do that now, we can wait" Emily started to say. "We don't have the luxury of waiting, waiting will get someone killed" I protested thinking back to Bex "I'll check for a roof access then" Matthew said walking out the room. "I'll get some thing for the fire" Carly hesitantly added walking away as well.
       "I'll get some supplies out the RV" I told the people who were left standing in the room and walked out of the back and straight out of the shop. "I'm not letting any of them die; no matter what it takes" I said under my breath... no matter what.

Hey guys it's Maddy sorry I haven't updated in a couple days I had a public speaking competition I had to prep for but... got first place yay!
So we're seeing Cassy go through a lot mentaly, will this change her relationship with the others? What do you think will happen between Zach and Cody as they are forced to be together?
