Chapter 42: Pack Dinner And Making Things Right...Hopefully

Ember's POV:
During the Baseball Exhibition...
I watched as the guys played. A familiar scent caught my nose but I ignored it. I was here to support my class. Not talk to him. He tapped my shoulder and I looked at him. Asano motioned for me to follow him then grabbed my arm and lead me away. Probably to make sure I followed. We went somewhere where no one could hear or see us.

"What is it, Feathers?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest.

"It's been a couple of days since we last spoke." He said. "I thought the ball game would be a perfect time."

"Why? Because you don't want to be seen with me? The only time you ever approach me is when you're mostly alone. And when someone is around you act like you don't really care. Just admit it already. You want to be with me but you don't want to ruin your 'good name.' You're ashamed that you like me." I said.

"You're forgetting about the rumor I started." Asona said calmly.

"That was just a rumor. Rumors are just something that's said and spread and something only idiots believe. Rumors are one thing. Actually believing it and showing it no matter what is another. You think you don't care but deep down you do. It's something that you'll never be able to get passed." I said.

I looked to the side. We both stayed silent for only God knows how long. Asano pulled my closer to him.

"I do want to be with you." He said.

That made my wolf jump for joy but it pained us both for me to do and say what I did next. I pulled away from Asano.

"No." I said as I closed my eyes.

Maybe it'll be easier if I don't look at him.

"It's best if we forget about this. We shouldn't ever speak to one another or even think about one another. I don't want you to come near me again." I said.

Closing my eyes didn't help any. I could easily imagine his hurt expression. My eyes began to water. A tear fell down my cheek when I opened my eyes. Asano was looking down but said nothing. He raised his head and opened his mouth to speak but was too late. I had already walked away. I wiped my tears away as I neared everyone. I stood beside my sister who saw right through me.

I watched as the game continued on. I put aside my sadness so I could feel happy about the guys winning. I was happy the entire day but the sadness returned when Amber and I neared our house.

The pain increased when Amber asked about it. I could tell she regretted asking.

Amber's POV:
When Ember finished telling me what happened she said she felt better about the entire thing. We got home and changed then headed to the pack house to help out with the dinner. The dining room is huge with several large long tables in long rows. There are five long tables in each row and eight rows. Smaller round tables dot the dining room for pups who are hold enough to eat on their own or for those who feel like sitting with certain people. Their is a long single table at the front of the dining room for the Beta, Third-in-command, and their families and another table on a stage behind it for the Alpha and his family. Those two tables are only used when we have guest. Other then that there not even used. A few tables, from storage, were cleaned and added to the stage for Ember and my class and our teachers. The tables were set and most of the food was finished.

Our classmates and the pack members that didn't live in the pack house began arriving. Korosensei was the first to arrive. He was immediately surrounded by pups who began asking him a ton of questions. Cookie had to come to his rescue. Our classmates arrived one-by-one along with the pack members followed by Professor B*tch and Karasuma.

"He actually came." Ember said in surprise.

"Yeah." I said.

Once everyone was there we moved into the dining room and began eating. I sat between Karma, who sat beside my father, and Ember, who sat beside Kayano. Professor B*tch and Karasuma sat on either end of the table and Korosensei sat between Nagisa, who said beside Kayano, and Isogai, who sort of sat beside Karasuma.

"I didn't expect you to come, Terasaka." I said to the boy across from me, who sat between Muramatsu and Yoshida.

Terasaka shrugged.

"Well, I'm glad you came. Even though you're a jerk." I said.

Terasaka gave me a look but said nothing. I chuckled. The dinner continued. Afterwards, everyone stayed a little longer then began leaving. Isogai and Kataoka stayed behind to help Cookie, Ember, me, and several others with the dirty dishes. Cookie tried paying the two for their help but they refused to accept the money. But Cookie is a persistent women and got the two to accept the money. They even took some leftovers home with them. That should last their families a couple of nights. Ember and I said our good byes to the pack then headed home.

I could see a figure standing on our porch and instantly knew it wasn't Karma. I then realized it was Asano. At first I was confused then I remembered I had gotten a pack member to talk to him. He agreed to come and talk to Ember.

"I thought I told him to stay away. And how did he find where we lived?" Ember asked.

She then looked at me.

"You did this, didn't you?" Ember asked.

I could hear the anger in her voice but knew she'd thank me later.

"Your wolf's sadness and your sadness will eat you both up. I finally have my sister and I have a steady life and soon I'll have my brother and I don't want to lose my sister because of this. Give it a month, at least." I said.

Ember sighed in defeat.

"Fine." She said.

We walked up the porch stairs. The two waited until I unlocked the door and walked in. I closed the door behind me then headed to bed. I really hoped everything worked out. I don't like Asano or his father but I care for me sister and her wolf. I just wish her wolf fell for someone else. But that's not my problem. I can't control who our wolves fall for. If I did, then I would have never wanted to be with Karma and I probably wouldn't have the perfect love life I have now.

I showered then went to bed. I stayed awake until I heard Ember walk upstairs and to her room. I wanted to know what happened but decided to hold it off until tomorrow. I just hope I didn't make things worse.
