Part 3: The final pieces of the puzzle

• Chapter 44 - Part 1 •

''Why? Maybe- But still why?''

It is hard to know, to understand, something beyond your comprehension. Or rather, it is not hard to understand but to connect the dots of the new knowledge together with the unknown. How do you solve a puzzle, when so many pieces are still missing? You can guess, but you can never be too sure.

Alpha Michael, is the unsolvable puzzle, and so many pieces are missing. ''Why- is Michael, or the Demon God whatever his name is, doing all of this? What's his goal?'' I shout angrily. If his goal is to conquer Lupus, then why resort to all of this madness?

''The universe isn't going to answer you just because you keep asking why repetitively'' mutters Alex as he rubs his forehead in irritation. I turn to face him, about to ask again just to spite him, but before I even drew a breath he said, ''I swear to you, I'm this close to killing you myself and face Michael's wrath alone. Don't ask why again-''

''Why waste time to collect the blood of royals? Why waste time kidnapping us, then releasing us, only to enslave, and possibly kill us all in the end? And why is he against my uncle's family? He had it for me and Raphael since the beginning! There has to be a reason, a motive!'' I let out as I stand up from my seat at the war table, going around my chair and pacing around the room.

''What's the point of all of this? Why is Michael assisting the Demon Gods agenda? Why is he allowing him to control his actions? Is Michael even in control of himself?'' I stop pacing and eye the scenery outside from the window, my hands slumping beside in defeat.

''I don't know. If I did, I think I would've already told you and saved my ears from your screeching voice'' He snaps. I turn my head and growl at him with a glare, but then I notice the other high ranked Gifted sitting around the table, staring at me quizzingly but avoiding my gaze, so I sigh, trying to calm myself.

It's been two days since we teleported home from the mission. Two days since we saw Michael or the Demon God, or whoever he really is. And in those past two days, we've been trying to strategize as best as we can to come up with a decent plan to fight Michael's army, but it's just impossible.

''Alexander and Emily. Enough already, if you two feel like being bitches then you're welcome to bitch around somewhere else, get out of here or shut the f-'' One of the high-ranked vents, his bushy eyebrows scrunching together so tightly that he almost looks like an animated character.

A rescue mission against a camp of two hundred demons is one thing, but attacking a land infested with thousands of them, while we barely have forty Gifted to fight? It's impossible. We're already ten Gifted short. Even if we now have about two hundred extra warriors from the freed werewolves and ex-demons, it still isn't enough.

And the rest of those damn supernatural races backed out like damn chickens, I wonder if they even know what's happening. Who even does that? Do they want the Gifted to be extinct on purpose? This world's politics are even worse than the human world's.

''Why don't you shut-''

''Stop it!'' I shout over Alex's angry retort. Running my hand through my long tangled brown hair for the one-hundredth time, I turn around and eye the others. ''You know what? Let's take a break. We all need a breather.''

The high-ranked nod rather eagerly in agreement, standing up and filing out of the meeting room quickly, leaving Alex, Danielle, Alysha and I still in our places, with ridiculous expressions on our faces. I've never seen anyone run this fast out a room, not even in school.
