[Caine]

‘I’m back and here to stay!’

Was what he told me as he plopped down beside me.

One reason I really liked Caine was that he too, loved the sea

And the sand

And the waves

Just like I did.

‘You’re coming back to school?’

I asked, feeling all excited.

Life might just be looking up again.

Cupcake Caine nodded.

Everyone who knew him nicknamed him Cupcake Caine because he baked cupcakes

Really good cupcakes.

They were so good,

It was as if you were having a bite of heaven.

‘And I doubt I’d be leaving for a long long time. My mom finally found her perfect guy.

They just got married.’

Caine was from a single parent family.

His parents divorced when he was really young.

And his mother moved because she had a boyfriend

And she wanted to move with him.

I guess she got a new one now.

That was good for me.

I won’t be so lonely in the near future.

[Swimming]

We talked,

Caine and I,

For a really really long time;

There was a lot to catch up on.

Apparently, while I was with Syria having the time of my life,

Caine was in Los Angeles doing what he loved doing…

Surfing and well… Baking cupcakes.

‘I’m sure the girls were crazy over your cupcakes and of you.’ I teased, laughing as I poked him.

He laughed and poked me back, ‘Yeah right but I bet you were having fun with loads of boys.’

‘That will never happen!’ I retorted, slapping his arm playfully.

And then we got this really crazy idea of splashing each other with water

After all,

We were really close to the water.

Then Caine dove into the water,

Fully clothed,

I smirked and followed suit,

And we went for a swim.

It was the most relaxing thing I’ve done over the past few days.

It was the most I’ve smiled

And Laughed

And the least

I

Cried.

[Home]

I reached home just in time for dinner.

I could eat today,

I was happier,

My parents didn’t seem to notice,

But I had the appetite

I told them about Caine’s return

They were truly happy.

‘We’ll go and visit his mother soon.’

My mother said, smiling her usual, pretty smile.

I smiled back and dug into my food.

It felt like the best thing I’ve tasted in days.

[Fieldtrip Day]

I dreaded this day after what happened

I was alone

No one to stick to and have fun with

I wanted to pretend I was sick

But I dragged myself to school.

Maybe something nice would happen

Just like at the beach a few days ago.

I saw Syria,

Speaking with Joanna and a few of my friends

I felt my innards twist and turn

My friends

Would Choose Her

Over

Me?

Suddenly,

I wanted to cry all over again.

I walked over to the weeping willow,

The good old weeping willow,

And Sat

Down

Alone.

[A Friend]

The crunching of leaves.

I looked up,

And there was Adriane.

We never spoke much

But she was pretty much alone too.

So I offered her to sit by me.

She smiled.

I realized she might have the prettiest smile in the whole school.

But no one seemed to notice

Maybe it was the dark aura she gave off

She always wore black

She never wore other colours

It was all

Black, black, black.

I didn’t mind at all actually

I always wanted to make friends with her before

But I was afraid people would laugh and call me a loser

I thought I was a loser now

So what more could I lose?

And so,

I started talking,

Talking to

Adriane.
