[Beep!]

I yawned and sat up in my bed,

Fumbling blindly for my phone.

When I did find it, I saw that there was a new text message,

From Caine.

It’s the last Saturday of March!

I stifled a laugh as I thought back to all the other last-Saturdays-of-March—

Swimming,

Bike riding,

Ice skating,

Baking pies,

And most importantly,

Baking cupcakes--

 and replied his text message.

I’ll be at your house in a while. Get those ingredients ready!

I freshened myself up and pulled on a pair of jeans and a shirt,

Mounted my bike and headed for Caine’s house.

Oh I was definitely aching

For some baking. :P

[‘You’re stirring it all wrong!’]

The Cupcake Extraordinaire exclaimed as he took the mixing bowl and wooden spoon from me and continued stirring.

‘I was stirring it like anyone would stir the cupcake mix!’

I replied defensively.

‘That’s the problem! You want the cupcakes to turn out special, you have to stir them specially.’

I laughed, shaking my head and put both my hands in the air as if surrendering to him.

‘You’re the boss.’

He grinned, a twinkle in his eye

As he spooned some of the cupcake mix into the cupcake liners.

It had only been 30 minutes since I’d arrived at his home and we’d finished baking the second batch of cupcakes.

I take that back.

Caine did most of the baking,

I did the cracking of eggs and all those simple stuff.

I took a golden brown cupcake and an icing tube and started to ice the cupcake.

It was random but neat enough,

Nothing compared to Caine’s work,

But it still looked edible anyway.

I looked proudly at my artwork and put it aside.

‘So… Prom’s in two weeks.’

I looked at Caine.

‘Well, have fun there. I’m not attending.’

His face fell as he reached for a cupcake and started to decorate it too.

‘Oh really. Sure.’

‘So, talking about school, why don’t I see you during lunch at all?’

He shot me a mysterious smile.

‘A guy needs his beauty sleep you know.’

I snorted.

In a very unlady-like manner.

That pig.

‘That explains it.’ I grinned, grabbing a nicely decorated cupcake and trying some of the icing.

‘This tastes really good. Looks really good too.’

‘Hey! No eating cupcakes before all of them have been baked!’

‘Oh don’t be a spoilsport!’

I took the cupcake and mashed it lightly onto his nose.

‘There, you ate a cupcake. The cream on your nose is the evidence.’

Then I burst into hysterical laughter.

Then I saw another cupcake coming at my face

So I ducked.

‘Ha! You missed me, Cupcake Caine!’

Then I ran,

With Caine chasing after me,

Both of us laughing,

Screaming around the house,

Not thinking about any of the problems in our lives.
