[Starbucks]
I entered the café,
Taking in the smell of coffee
And enjoying it thoroughly,
Dang,
I sure missed this place;
It was the first time I stepped in here in weeks.
I walked over to the counter and grabbed a frappe
And took a seat by the window
So I could watch the people
Walking
By.
It was something we did when we came to Starbucks,
Syria and I,
But today,
I did it
Alone.
Somehow,
I didn’t really mind.
As I watched couples and friends and families walking by,
All of them deep in conversation,
I reflected on what Caine told me and realized
He was right.
I would find another friend,
Someone who actually didn’t lie to me.
And as for Brad,
Sigh…
[Unexpected Company]
I was well into my frappe when I heard it,
Her voice,
Accompanied with their voices.
I didn’t know why,
But I had the sudden instinct
To
Hide.
So I reached back and pulled my hoodie up.
Too late,
She spotted me
And led her group of friends...
Who were once my friends too…
towards my table.
But nay, they didn’t stop there.
They continued on,
But made sure I heard what Syria said,
‘Ah… What a loner, so lonely,
In this lonely, lonely world.
Lonely for her anyway.’
Then she sniggered,
And led her friends away.
Soon, all that was left of them was the smell of Syria’s expensive perfume,
And the echo of her words in my ears.
I cringed at that,
Feeling hot tears well up in my eyes as I took my frappe and walked out of Starbucks,
Out into the chilly night
And back home,
Shoulders
Slumped,
And
Heart
Bruised,
Yet again.
