[‘I Could Hear Your Silent Calls’]

Caine whispered teasingly as he plopped himself down beside me.

Then he saw the expression on my face.

‘Another bad day?’

I sighed and nodded,

Hugging my knees to myself.

‘Well,  maybe I can help-’

‘Like you could. No one cares. At all.’

I cut in coldly, suddenly feeling hopeless

And tired

And annoyed at Syria,

Because she was being unreasonable…

And hurtful

At myself,

Because I was a weakling who could do nothing to protect myself from Syria’s blows,

At the whole world

Because they could not see the pain

In

My

Heart.

Caine shut up and turned away.

But he remained by my side.

Sorry Caine…

[After a While]

‘I might not be able to help, but I do have some knowledge to impart to you.’

He said softly.

I looked at him skeptically.

Him?

He might be my best friend but he was the guy who flirts with girls at seven years?

What knowledge did he have to impart?

I laughed.

‘Sure, O Wise One.’

‘I’m serious! Come on.’

He took my hand and led me to the shoreline.

Then he turned to me and smiled that smile…

That smile that made me smile too.

‘You know sometimes, there are really big waves and when you see them, all you want to do is stop and admire them.’

I looked at him and saw his expression.

It was so serene and calm…

So I continued listening.

‘Those waves are really fast in returning to the sea and you can’t catch much of a long glance at them.

But the thing about those waves is that there’ll always be another wave replacing the previous one.

Life is like that, really.

One thing goes,

And something else will come to replace it.

And most of the time, that something else is

So

Much

Better.

So you’ll find someone else one day…

A best friend

Or a beau,

You’ll find another one.’

He turned to me and smiled again

And gave my hand a squeeze.

I was quiet for a while,

Digesting his words;

They made sense.

I doubt I’d be forgetting them for a long, long while.

I turned to face him too.

‘Thanks man.’
