**One more thing**

I know that the chapter are quite short and I appologise about that, but they did take a lot of time and effort to write. Please comment and let me know what you think :)

“This can’t have been an accident.” Siobhan repeated for the umpteenth time.

“Yes, yes, but who would do it?” Melusine asked impatiently.

“You don’t think… Saleena…?”

“What reason would Saleena have to take your child from you?” Mel was obviously confused by this train of thought.

“We were arguing… a few weeks ago… and she may have found out…” she hesitated. Should she tell Melusine?

“Found out…?” Mel prompted.

“Elaine is supposed to become crone… instead of… Saleena.”

“Really? But she’s just a child!”

“A powerful child. She’s my child, and I’m more powerful than Saleena, so why would she not be?”

“See, you’re just speculating, we don’t know any of this.” Mel took a deep breath before continuing. “But maybe we can look into this.”

“Yes, we can go and find her!”

Saleena’s house was empty.

Well, nobody answered when they knocked on the door, anyway.

“This proves it!” Siobhan practically yelled.

“How does it prove it?”

“You mean you haven’t noticed?” Siobhan laughed without humour. “There’s a note in the window.”

She picked it up and read it aloud:

“Siobhan,

“I am sure you have noticed by now that your daughter is gone. Why else would you be here? And I am also sure that you suspect me. Smart girl. If you had not let slip, when we spoke before, when you said you would become crone… well, I would not have known.

“Your daughter is just like you: powerful, beautiful, deadly… and remarkably unobservant. It was not hard to take her. Do not worry; I will take good care of her… If you know what I mean.

“Feel like being a hero? Come find me. I’ll be at the witches’ centre, third shop from the left.

“Saleena.”

“Oh,” Melusine replied feebly. “I guess that does prove it.”

“Yeah, it, does!”

“Well, we have to find her!”

“Weren’t you listening? We know where she is!” Siobhan punched the air with joy. “The witches’ centre! I’m going to get my baby back!”

“I’ve been waiting for a while now.” The shop was dark, and Saleena’s voice came from the darkest corner. “It took you a very long time to find me… us.”

The light suddenly came on, illuminating the store. All of the shelves were empty, but the dust indicated that this was a very recent event.

More importantly, Elaine, Siobhan’s beloved daughter, was in one of the glass display cases. She was awake and crying, but she could only see this as there were tears streaking down her little red cheeks. The case was soundproof.

“I’m sorry…” Siobhan’s face was hard, her voice like an arctic wind. “I had some… errands to run.”

Saleena’s laugh was brittle and seemed to physically hurt Siobhan. “Well, obviously your little errands are more important to you than your daughter.” She moved over to the case and stroked the sides. “Maybe I should keep her… I would be a better mother… but, then again, it will be more fun to watch you squirm as I kill your little girl in front of you.”

She let out a maniacal laugh, her eyes glinting in the light.

“I’ll kill you.” Siobhan threatened. “I assure you, I will lose no sleep over the deed.”

“Ha! Is that right?” she sneered. “I don’t think you have the guts.”

“We’ll see.”

“So you’re going to kill me… you and what army, Iquabeth?”

“This one.” Siobhan snapped her fingers, and four figures stepped over the threshold and into the store.

Onyx was first in line, looking like a dainty fairy off of a Christmas tree. This look was only intensified by all six feet off David, who was standing next to her. Siobhan had called him reluctantly, her abandonment issues making it a very difficult decision. Next to David was Kimberly, a grim smile on her face, although she actually looked as though she was rather enjoying the excitement. Last was Melusine. Mel was standing tall and strong, no hesitation in her eyes.

That’s your army?” Saleena was still laughing. “Bring it on.”
