"Wait what the fuck?" I asked as soon as we both pulled away. "Shit I'm sorry I should've asked you." Caleb immediately said. "Not that, do you like me?"
"No, I just randomly kissed you to mess with your feelings. Of course I do, you idiot."
"Oh I'm an idiot? In a year you never noticed I loved you."
"Well you didn't realize last night."
"What?"
"I asked when you knew your life was headed in a different direction? Last night it was like what you said, like a switch had been flicked and I suddenly just knew that I wanted to be with you."
"Wait, small question. I thought you were straight?"
"I guess I'm not."
"Well yeah, obviously."
We just stood there awkwardly for another minute before I spoke up again. "So, now what?"
"I don't know. I don't really wanna tell the others yet. I mean you know Finn will only tease us for it."
"Yeah I agree. Let's not tell them. We'll just go outside and say that we worked things out."
"That's vague, I like it."
We both walked towards the door and went outside to meet the others.

My the time dusk fell Caleb and I were working on the van again. She didn't need fixing anymore but we just wanted an excuse to talk to each other. "So what does that make us?" Caleb asked me while inspecting the inside. "I have no idea, Caleb." I was sat on the ground with my back leaning against the van and a book in my hands. It was Graceling. Millie's book. "Do we really need a label, though? I mean no one knows so we don't need to, like, describe it to anyone."
"Yeah true. What about just calling it a relationship?"
"That's vague, I like it." I answered. "Did you just quote me?" He asked while leaning out of the van. I looked up at him and shrugged. "Yeah, that one very unspecific sentence I just said was a quote from you. No one else in the history ever said that. Damn, Caleb, narcissistic much?" I said while smiling. "Whatever, Matarazzo."
"You know I'm right, McLaughlin."

During dinner Caleb and I avoided talking to each other as much as we could, the same happened while we were all playing cards for the rest of the evening. "Okay, I'm gonna get something to drink, who else wants some?" I asked while getting up after about an hour of Blackjack. All four hands shot into the air. "Caleb, could you come help me carry everything?" I asked, hoping it was subtle enough, but apparently it wasn't because Sadie got up and offered to help me. I accepted it and shot Caleb and apologetic look. "So I'm guessing Noah wants water, Finn and Caleb want a coke, am I right?" I asked, not even waiting for their response. Sadie was gonna get an iced tea and I'd get myself some Mountain Dew. The orders had been the same for years.

"So when are you guys gonna tell us you're a thing?" Sadie casually asked while we were in the kitchen grabbing everything. "Wait what?"
"You and Caleb? When are you finally gonna tell us you're dating."
"We-we're not." I scrambled but it was too late. "I knew it, Finn owes me five."
"Really, you're betting on us? Also you owe Finn five."
"Yes we are and no I do not because you two are definitely dating."
"We're not. We talked for a while and we decided to not let it influence our friendship."
"Like that's even possible. My friendship with Millie and Finn was blown to bits because I liked her. And on top of that, any normal person would rather not share a bed with someone they know has a crush on them. But Caleb hasn't asked to sleep in another bed and your beds are still pushed together. On top of that you asked Caleb to come help you here, not someone else."
"I always ask Caleb."
"Funny how that's the only argument you actually say something against. Because I am completely right on the others. So, Finn owes me five."
"Don't tell any of the others, please. Not even Noah."
"Aha! You admit it. Also I promise not to tell Finn until you guys want to tell him but I can't promise anything about Noah."
"Sadie, from one gay to another, don't tell him."
"Gaten, you're not even gay."
"Excuse you, I'm homo romantic so I am indeed gay."
"Wait what about Caleb, I thought he was straight."
"Well obviously he isn't." She shrugged and grabbed three glasses, leaving me to carry the last two.

"So Finn is the only one who doesn't know?" Caleb asked me. "Yeah, sorry. You know how Sadie is."
"Yeah, I do. Sorry you had to go through that."
"Where's your face, it's too dark, I can't see you."
"That's racist."
"I didn't-you know what I meant."
"I do."
"Slow down with the wedding bells, McLaughlin."
"Oh shut up, Matarazzo."
"Make me."
