Summer was usually a happy time for Savannah, but not this summer. She was packing her bags for the two weeks at the Hamptons. She usually invited one of two of the girls to join her - Jessie and Meranda- but this summer she had invited Meranda and Samantha. Jessie was the last person she wanted to see, and for the past two days she kept telling herself she had no feelings for Shawn, she started to believe it until he texted her wanting to meet up.
"Vannah? Are you in here?" Meranda asked, coming upstairs and down the hall. Savannah counted to herself before Meranda popped through the door with Samantha beside her. "You're usually packed before anyone and this time you're the one still packing the day of heading out. Does this have anything to do with Shawn and Jess?"
"Shawn who?" Savannah asked, she looked at herself in the mirror before turning to her friends. "No, it has nothing to do with them. The Hamptons weren't on my mind this year until I asked you two days ago. That's why I'm a little late on packing. Um...I'm just about done, can you do me a favour?"
"Sure, whatever. What do you want done?" Meranada asked, as she stood up from the bed ready to do whatever Savannah wanted. She was rewarded to be going to the Hamptons for the 5th year in a row, especially after how mean she had been the past year.
"Go get my straightener from the bathroom? I have to put my makeup bag in so...please?" Savannah asked, faking happiness. Meranda seemed to buy it, and so did Samantha. "I'm so glad you agreed to come this year. I mean, I know I've never asked you to join me at the Hamptons before but I'm glad you agreed at such last minute," Savannah said, talking a mile a minute.
Samantha laughed at how giddy Savannah was until she noticed the energy drinks on the desk. "S, you said you'd never drink these again after what happened at Matt's birthday. The dare? Hospital?" Samantha asked, Savannah had ended up at the hospital the night of Matt's sixteenth birthday party because she had drank one of the monsters and then consumed alcohol. She nearly had a heart attack but they stopped it in time. That was the night Savannah had a late night conversation with Shawn in a hospital room. It was sort of romantic in Samantha's eyes because he stayed with her instead of continuing partying.
"Oh, yeah," Savannah let out a nervous laugh before dumping the rest of the can out the window. "I forgot, considering I was drunk!" Savannah told her, she looked across the room, her eyes landing on a picture of her and Shawn last summer at the Hamptons. They had crashed a wedding, stolen a bottle of champagne, and broke into the pool after hours. She smiled at the memory then frowned. "Shawn better not show his face," Savannah mumbled before turning to the singing Meranda coming into the room singing summertime sadness.
"Sorry," Meranda said her voice sounding so innocent while she passed the rusk ctc flat iron to Savannah before she placed it into her suitcase. "Ready?" Meranda asked, Savannah shook her head before grabbing her Iphone 5c, then she nodded.
"Let's get out of here!" Savannah said, a smile on her face that showed happiness and a voice the said she was excited but her heart and brain were dreading the next two weeks, having to spend the next two weeks in a house with Shawn. Two weeks, two weeks where everything use to be happy and carefree but now full of carefulness and anger.
"Sweetie, we decided to car pool this year. Since Shawn had invited his friends Matthew and Cameron to spend the two weeks at the Hamptons with him, you girls are joinin ghtem in the van and me, your father and Kenna are going with Shawn's parents," Melinda said, explaining what was happening.
"No, there is no damn way I am getting in the same car as Shawn Stupid Asshole Mendes," Savannah said her hatred for the boy coming out all in one sentence. Her mother gave her a look that said this wasn't up for discussion, she groaned but walked over to the red mini-van and threw her suitcase, Meranda's suitcase and Samantha's suitcase into the back and got into the back.
"Savannah, Shawn want's you to sit with him," Matthew teased, Matthew was the only other one out of Shawn's 8 best friends that Savannah knew. She couldn't let him know what was going on so she didn't protest and sat in the seat next to him. She sent him a sweet smile before putting her seat belt on and turning towards Samantha and Meranda.
"Savannah, you've been ignoring me since school ended. Remind me, did I run over your dog?" Shawn asked, confused on why he was suddenly getting the cold shoulder from his best friend that, whenever they were at the hamptons were mistaken as a couple.
"No, you didn't. I just...I can't talk about it because if I do then I'm just going to hurt myself anymore than I should," Savannah told him and smiled at him. A smile that was forced, not one he usually got from her. It wasn't the Savannah smile he wanted, he wanted the one that use to make him feel like he meant something to her, this one was cold.
"Savannah you know you could tell me anything," Shawn said, trying to get whatever she was withholding from him.
"No...no I can't," Savannah said, taking her phone out and finally answering the millionth text from Jessie since the whole outing in her front yard. "So, you and Jesse. Didn't see that," Savannah said in a breath. Matt heard and squished up between them.
"Shawn and Jessie? What do you mean?" Matt asked, looking at Savannah confused. Savannah laughed at his facial expression. She seen it a lot and still every time she laughed. Matthew was like Savannah's older brother, overprotective and always tried to hurt the people that hurt her.
"Shawn and my friend Jessie Moroan are dating, didn't you hear?" Savannah asked, acting as if the words that came out of her mouth didn't hurt. Wait, they didn't hurt. Savannah had no feelings for Shawn. She looked at Matt, watching the reaction. It was a reaction of disappointment. "What? Were you hoping he would have gone for someone other then her?"
"Actually, yeah. I was," Matt whispered, before taking his seat between Samantha and Meranda again, getting right into there girl conversation amongst them.
"What was that about? And how'd you find out about me and Jessie?" Shawn asked, Savannah laughed and looked at him, shaking her head.
"She's my best friend. Do you think she wouldn't tell me? Plus you two weren't being so discret about it, I mean making out in the courtyard right by the enterance? Of course I was going to see you," Savannah said, a smirk on her lips.
Her attitude was something he never experienced before. It wasn't the usual nice, happy, cheerful and loving attitude that he was use to, this one was sort of not giving a damn and bitchy. He was really confused on why she was acting this way towards him, he wouldn't care if she acted this way towards the boys but to him, it hurt. A lot.
Savannah put her earbuds in and turned it up full blast so she could drown out Shawn and his nagging. She felt a tear slip from her eye as the song 'Sweet Despair' played. She went through every memory of her and Shawn, even the little kisses he would leave on her all for shits and giggles and then they were crushed by what she saw in the courtyard and the ones she had made up. Once she opened her eyes, they were in the Hamptons.
Here it goes, a summer full of fake smiles, laughs and niceness towards Shawn. A boy Savannah and Samantha wished would drop dead.
