That night was a sleepless night for Jessie. She tossed and turned and even if she tried to cuddle with Shawn. She just couldn't get the tone of Savannah's voice out of her head. "No, no you're not. You never are Jess." It was so sincere and it was the truth. She wasn't sorry for hurting Savannah and that's what scared her. Yes it was now clear that her and Savannah would never be best friends again and for once in her like, she was okay with it.
The alarm clock next to the bed went off and Shawn jolted awake, throwing it across the room. "Ugh, the annual brunch," Shawn groaned, as he pulled his arm out from under Jessie and wiped his face of nothing with them.
"Morning sleepy," Jessie whispered, turning towards him; half of her body on his, looking down at his face. Shawn smiled up at her before complaining about having to get up. Jessie nodded and pulled back from a non-exsistant kiss and laid on her back. It bothered her that whatever was bothering Savannah was effecting her and Shawn's relationship. She was his girlfriend not Savannah!
Jessie watched as Shawn left the room and headed for the bathroom down the hall. She heard an awkward bump in with Savannah and laughed to herself. It was as if they kept bumping into each other on purpose but then she heard the worst cough she had ever heard. She wasn't sure if it came from Shawn or Savannah until they spoke. She heard the hoarse and raspy voice of Savannah and got up.
"Savannah?" Jessie asked, eyeing the brunette that was standing in the hallway outside one of the bathrooms. "You don't look so well," Savannah nodded and turned towards the bathroom on the other side and bolted for it. Jessie stood in the hallway and looked at the ill girl who then again, retreated with her toothbrush, brushing her teeth.
"I caught the flu bug, no biggy," Savannah said as she made her way back to her room. Slamming the door shut before laying down again and closing her eyes where the thoughts of Jessie and Shawn filled her head. From the kiss in the courtyard, to there flirting the day after school at the supper market to, yesterday at the pool. She didn't know she was crying until the warm liquid hit her hand. She didn't bother to wipe it away she just left it there and fell asleep.
"So, little Miss. I never get sick, got sick," Jessie said walking into Samantha's room. Samantha looked at her and turned back to Meranda who was busy doing her hair with the curling Iron that Samantha had brought. "So you're not going to talk to me? Savannah forgave me, why can't you?" Jessie asked, Samantha then turned to her.
"We're not cheering you on because Savannah is Savannah. She will never fight for him if it meant hurting you. You're like her little sister, she'll never hurt you even if you hurt her. Trust me, we know. We've hurt her before and she didn't even tell us until the bruise started to form and she backed away from us. It started anger, and it ended with barely talking to us," Samantha said, and looked at the delicate face of Jessie and shook her head. "Savannah's heart is broken right now, I know this because well...I heard her talking to Cameron yesterday. She wasn't going to let her feelings get in the way of two people who clearly love each other. But what you and Shawn have isn't love. It's fucking stupid to pursue something knowing you'll lose the only person who believed in you," Samantha said and turend back to Meranda who looked like she was about to cut a bitch.
"Do you hear that?" Meranda asked, turning the volume down on her ipad. The sound of guitar strumming was heard from down the hall and the faint singing of Shawn. "That was there song," Meranda whispered with a sad smile as Shawn played and sang kiss me.
"There song? As in Shawn and Savannah's?" Jessie asked, looking at Meranda who nodded. Jessie got up and started towards there room, and seen Shawn sitting in the room looking at a video that was uploaded to the computer. "What's that?" Jessie asked, Shawn shrugged and continued watching. 'I'm falling for your eyes' came on and it flashed the video at the evening dance the last day there were there looking into each other's eyes, looking for answers.
"You do know that your friends were expecting you to end up with her, right?" Jessie said, sitting next to him. Shawn nodded and took hold of Jessie's hand giving it a squeeze.
"But instead I met you," Shawn whispered, looking into her eyes. Jessie turned her head looking at the video and seen what was on the screen.
"You two kissed?" Jessie asked, eyes glued on the two of them. Shawn turned the video off and groaned, Savannah wasn't leaving his head anytime soon. "Did you and Savannah date without me and the girls knowing?"
"Sort of but not really. Usually we spent a month to the full summer here and well...Me and Savannah we flirted, hell it went as far as actually dating but it always ended within that summer. I guess we weren't being so discreet about it after all if the boys were able to put together this footage," Shawn said, laying on his back looking at the ceiling.
"Explains why Vannah didn't really like the fact that we were dating at first," Jessie whispered, leaning back. Finally understanding why Savannah held so much anger for her.
"Savannah didn't like this? She seemed like she didn't care...I'll be back," Shawn said, getting up and walked away from her. Jessie didn't know where he was going but followed him to Savannah's room, Shawn knocked a few times before walking in, seeing her passed out cold on the floor, as white as a piece of paper. "Savannah? Wake up, Savannah? Jess, call 911!" Shawn yelled, begging for Savannah to wake up.
Jessie did as she was told and they stayed waiting, Shawn had Savannah's head propped up but when the paramedics got there they took over. "Where are you taking her?" Jessie asked, tapping the man on the shoulder.
"South Hampton Hospital," He told her and took her out to the ambulance that was waiting. Jessie nodded and turned to see Samantha and Meranda looking at her, judging her. Blaming her, Jessie didn't know how much more she could take from them because they were the Meranda and Samantha team. The two girls that defended Savannah no matter what, and Savannah was suppose to be her best friend, but she wasn't acting like it lately.
And it was her fault.
"Let's get down to the hospital," Shawn said, walking out of the room that he had spent so much time in the summer before. A memory flashed through his mind of her and him, but as fast as it came it went.
