🎵🎵Love and the Outcome - If I Don't Have You

Dedicated to Loisadiyiah98

David walked into the hospital and the antiseptic smell that filled the place engulfed his nostrils.
The last time he had been in a hospital, his father was slowly fading away from this world. He pushed back the memories that threatened to resurface and walked to the reception desk.

"Hello. I'm looking for Dr.Benson's office." he asked a slightly overweight nurse who was typing and had not looked up to acknowledge him.

"He's busy at the moment. Please take a seat and wait for him." she said without looking up.

"I'm actually here for the meeting he's having upstairs right now and I'm kinda late."

She turned her eyes from the computer screen and looked at him. Her eyes were bloodshot and had bags under them.
She needs some sleep, David thought.

"Third floor, look for the door with his name tag on it",she replied and went back to typing.

"Thanks." he hurriedly moved towards the stairs.

He had been helping his aunt with chores and hadn't checked the time.
If Ella hadn't sent him a text that she and her family were on their way to the hospital, he might have missed the orientation altogether. And the last thing he wanted was for Ella to think that he wasn't taking everything serious.

The doctor's office was only a few offices away from the stairs and he knocked gently and entered.

Woah! Now that's an office.

The place was huge with a lounge and discussion area and a reception area in which the doctor talked with his patients.

This guy must be really rich or really important here, David said to himself.

Everyone's attention was drawn to him the moment he entered. He folded his hands into his pockets and walked to the discussion area where the Clarkes and Mr. Mensa were seated.

"I was beginning to wonder if you would come." Mrs. Clarke said to him.

"Sorry ma'am." he took a seat beside Mr. Mensa, Jade's father.

His best friend had gone to spend the vacation with his aunt after a misunderstanding had occurred between his father and aunt. David didn't want to admit it but he missed him already.

"David, I learnt you already know much about Lois' condition so I can't start over again." Dr. Benson directed his gaze towards him.

Even without knowing him, one could tell he was a very strict man. From his posture all the way to his facial expressions.

"1.Lois shouldn't sleep late.
2. Make sure she doesn't stress herself.
3.Every two hours, stretch her legs and massage them slowly to prevent atrophy.
4. Always remember to let Lois take her Calcium pills.
And lastly, make sure she never falls down. It would be catastrophic if she does."
Mr. Mensa nodded and typed them into his iPad.

"I've spoken with Dr.Gold so everything is in order. He know the only thing he's allowed to do is to examine Lois' and give us feedback. He's not to prescribe Lois any medicine and most importantly, prep her for surgery no matter what his feedback is." Dr. Benson looked at Mr. Mensa and continued,

"I can't stress the severity of these rules and the dire consequences that could occur if any of them are broken. Please take extreme caution. The Clarkes are entrusting their daughter to you."

Mr. Clarke looked at his buddy from high school and smiled. His wife might be uptight certain times but he trusted Thomas Mensa. The guy had gone through losing his wife and one of his sons and had still been able to pull through to raise his other son alone. If that wasn't strength and determination then he didn't know what it was.

"Got it Doc, these pretty ladies are in safe hands." Mr. Mensa said to Dr. Benson and smiled at Ella and Lois.

Jade's resemblance to his father is really uncanny, Ella thought and gave Jade's father a high five. Lois laughed and also raised her hand for a high five.

Tears glistened in Mrs. Clarke's eyes as she saw how happy her daughters were. Her husband put his arm around her, pulled her to him and said,

"They are going to be fine Isabella."

"I hope so. I really hope so." she replied.

False hope was worse than no hope and she fervently hoped her daughters wouldn't have their hopes crushed after they met Dr.Gold.
