🎵🎵Taylor Swift - Call it What You Want

Ella tucked her sister in the bed they shared on the bus after massaging her legs the way their mom had taught her. At first she didn't understand why they had to do it every single day until her mom explained to her.

If they didn't massage Lois' legs every day, there would be decreased blood flow to her legs and she would get atrophy. And then Lois' hopes of ever walking would be crushed.
Ella brushed her sister's hair and stared at her beautiful face. That was nothing she wouldn't give to go back to that day everything had changed.
There wasn't a night that she didn't sleep without wishing she would wake up and it had all been a dream and Ella could walk again. God, please let this doctor give us good news, she silently prayed. She had never been a very religious person after her sister had had the accident but at certain times, she felt calm and didn't really hate herself after she prayed.

She closed the bedroom door and walked over to David. He was sitting in one of the passenger seats making a phone call.

"Jade?" she mouthed and David nodded in response.

Three days ago, they had talked to one of their close friends, Jade Mensa and he didn't look very happy. They guessed something was wrong between Jade and Grace, his girlfriend of six months who was also a close friend of theirs.

Ella had talked to Grace in the afternoon and Grace had said something along the lines of Jade not wanting to come back to Jamestown, where they all lived after staying with his aunt during the vacation. She had told David what Grace said and was now patiently waiting to find out how true that was.

After David was done with the phone call, he breathed out and said to Ella,
"I think we should go out and talk."

He looked at Mr. Mensa and nodded his head in his direction. Mr. Mensa had stretched the driving seat and was sleeping. And from David's gestures, Ella guessed he didn't want him to hear whatever Jade had said.

They opened the RV door quietly and David had just gotten out after Ella when Mr. Mensa shouted,
"Where are you guys going?"

"Just enjoying the fresh air Tom." David replied. Mr. Mensa had told them to call him Tom and avoid calling him Mr. Mensa because it made him feel old.

"Don't take long!" Tom told them.

"What did Jade say?" Ella asked David.

They had closed the RV door and made sure that they were out of earshot from Tom. He had parked at a petrol filling station so where they were was not as quiet as they hoped. There were currently two cars filling up their petrol tanks and a group of teenagers on skating boards messing around.

"He said he had joked about staying with his aunt to Grace when they last talked and Grace must have taken it serious."

"He didn't mean it?"

"That's what I was thinking too so I asked him and he said he isn't sure." David picked up a stone and threw it a stray cat that passed by them.

"He must be liking that place then." Ella hoped the hurt she felt wasn't evident in her voice.

She wanted Jade to be happy of course, but she also felt connected to him in a way that she couldn't describe. He was like a brother to her and was the first friend who had showed that he really cared.

"He said his aunt introduced him to his mom's side of the family and they seem like pretty great people from the way he was talking."

"Did you tell him it was okay if he stayed?" Ella snapped at David. She thought he would be distraught even more than her because Jade was his best friend.

"Of course I didn't. But you should have heard his voice when he was describing them. It was like there was this whole family he had just met for the first time and they wanted to know all about him and be around him."

"I think I would be confused too if I were in his shoes. Sorry for snapping at you." Ella said and tucked a strand of hair behind her left ear.

"Believe me when I tell that I want him to choose us too. I really do." David touched Ella on the arm and looked directly into her eyes.

Ella just stared into David's deep brown eyes and nodded. David slowly moved his head towards her to kiss her and she moved her head towards him too, eagerly waiting for the moment their lips crashed.
That moment never came because Tom (Mr. Mensa) suddenly came into view and clapped his hands once.

"Come on. Its late guys. Get in the bus", he folded his arms and had a stern look on his face.
David groaned in frustration and Ella smiled as they both followed Tom into the bus.
