🎵🎵Estelle - 'Conqueror'
Lois gripped the beam erected in her room to help her to practice her walking exercises every day.
This was supposed to wait until she had healed from her surgery wounds in about four months but her body had healed incredibly fast.
The doctors who supervised her had even been surprised.
Her sister, Ella sat on Lois' bed ready to jump to her sister's aid in case she fell down. She was trying to not help Lois because she knew her sister would snap at her to let her do it on her own.
Stubbornness seem to run through the family.Ella's mind drifted to how the past few weeks had been. A lot of people in the town had trooped into their house, some to congratulate the Clarkes and thank God with them and others too wanted to see the wonder child.
The wonder child who could walk after doctors said that was never possible. Lois had become quite the celebrity in Jamestown.
Jade was also still confused on whether to come back or not. His grandmother was fine when Ella had last talked to him. She remembered their conversation so clearly."I'm very sorry about your grandmother." Ella said.
"You didn't cause it so you don't have to say sorry." Jade chuckled on the other side of the phone.
"How are you Jade? I know you've talked to Dave and everything but talk to me."
"I feel like I'm beginning to sound childish and pampered when I complain nowadays. Things are what they are Ella. I can't change them now."
"What about you and Grace? How are things?"
"Hmm. We're friends now and I'm happy about that. I don't want to hold her back until maybe I get back to Jamestown. Then I'm getting back with her."
Ella had smiled and knew Jade would wink at her after saying that last sentence if he had been with her.
"So you're coming back for senior year?" Ella asked him.
"Yep. Besides, I don't want to leave my old man to those female vultures in Jamestown."
She had laughed then. Classic Jade. "You better come fast then."
Ella's snapped out of her thoughts when she felt a tap on her knee.
It was Lois, in her wheelchair. She was wiping the sweat of her face with a face towel."Hey what's up?" Ella asked her sister.
"I tried like five times but I could only take one step each time." Lois pouted.
"The therapist did tell you to take it very easy on yourself." Ella said to Lois.
Frankly, she wasn't all that enthusiastic for her sister to walk that fast.
She felt it was too early and wanted to Lois to take her time, really take her time so that once Lois finally walked, it would be permanent."I'm rolling my eyes at you." Lois threw the sweat soaked face towel at her sister.
Ella dodged it and threw herself around her sister in a hug as Lois squirmed at in her hands.David and Grace entered the room to see the sisters in what seemed to be like Ella smothering Lois with a hug.
"Ohhh, if were you and Ella hugging this way I would be so turned on." David said to Grace and laughed.
Grace hit him at the back of the head. "You can be so weird sometimes."
"Blame that on Jade. He's infected us all with his weirdness genes." Ella said after pulling away from Lois.
"Not me. I'm weird free." Grace chuckled and went to sit on Lois' bed besides Ella.
"When was that? When his tongue was 6 feet down your throat?" David teased Grace and made kissing noise while pretending to be holding someone.
Ella laughed while Grace fumed at him and buried herself in Ella's shoulder.
Lois took a pillow and threw it to him."Kid here!"
"Sorry Lois. I missed you." David approached her and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
The two of them got closer each day. It made Ella happy but she also knew that Lois couldn't hang out with them all the time and had to get friends her own age.
"So what are we doing this afternoon?" David asked them.
"A game of Uno?" Grace suggested.
Ella and Lois nodded in agreement while David had a huge grin plastered on his face."You ladies aren't in luck because I came with some cards up my sleeve"
"He's going to cheat." Lois whispered to Ella and Grace.
"I am definitely going to cheat." David winked at them and Lois hit him with another pillow.
