Fifth chapter published.
Hope you like it!
*Millie's POV
It's been almost an hour. And we aren't even close to finding the other flag.
It is getting kinda boring, some girls gave up looking for the boys and stayed to "defend" our flag. So our original group of ten people was cut by the half. I was walking with Maddie by my side and three other girls behind us. She was holding the flashlight, while I was looking around. But this place was much bigger than I thought. By the time we find their flag and come back to Lilia, it's probably gonna be morning.
It will be a long night.
I'm a very competitive person. I've been homeschooled my whole life, so I never had to deal with all that grade competition. I compete for more important stuff. Like the last pair of shoes at a store, the first place at a line and the best tickets for a concert. In fact, I met my best friend at a concert, fighting for the last front row tickets, but that's a story for another time. The point is, I won.
In fact, I never lose. I always end up with the shoes, being in the front of the line to a Meet and Greet and in the first row of the show. That's who I am. I always get what I want. So, even if I don't like this place or even if I hate nature, I'm not losing this game.
"I think we should give up, Madds." I call my new friend by her nickname as I stop walking.
"We can't stop now. We're in the middle of nowhere, and the other girls are too far." She replies walking faster, making me run again to catch up with her.
I just roll my eyes and cross my arms. It may be summer, but the nights are a little colder. We keep searching in the woods and no sign of the male species. I am getting tired.
Maddie is just smiling and saying that we'll find them, but I know she's tired as hell, I can see it in her face. The other girls are just complaining nonstop about walking too much and the mosquitoes are biting me. I really don't do nature.
"You know, I think I'll go look by myself, then. I know you're tired Madds, and you guys can go rest." We all stop as I look at them.
"No! I won't let you go alone! This is a group thing and you're gonna get lost!" Maddie says, suddenly regaining her posture.
"I'm not, don't worry. You can have the flashlight to help you come back to our flag, I can guide myself through the dark. It's fine." I say, trying to smile, and putting my hand over her shoulder reassuringly.
She gives up and just nods, while the other girls celebrate and thank me. They walk away with our source of light and it all becomes dark. Okay, not so fine. I put my hand on a tree for support and keep on walking straight ahead.
A few (feeling like much more than just a few) minutes later, my eyes adjust to the light. I'm stepping on branches and leaves, hearing voices coming from so far away and I sigh, wiping my forehead with the back of my hand. It's cold, but I'm sweating.
Suddenly, I hear the leaves moving behind me. I turn around and walk backwards, a little bit frozen. I try to convince myself that this is just a game and that they wouldn't let kids get hurt by any animal, but I remember that WE are the responsible for the activities. Actually, Maddie is. So this is her idea.
I guess we're not 100% safe.
I'm still with walking backwards, now a little bit faster, when my back collides with something. Someone. We both turn around at the same time and I get blinded out by the light of his flashlight right on my face.
Finn's POV
My group is a mess. It's just a bunch of teenagers that won't do anything if they're not in the mood for it. I hate it, because these are the best games and I don't understand who doesn't like it.
Most part of the boys are at our flag, actually cheating by hiding it under leaves or sticking it in the trees, but I don't care. The boys and I gave up on trying to get them to play for real. So Caleb, Gaten, a guy named Will, that guy Romeo (who's really annoying) and I were the only ones who went looking for the girls.
Yeah. I'm exaggerating a little. Some other boys went looking for them too, but they were definitely NOT interested in the flag. They're probably lost right now, since we're the ones with the flashlight, or they found some girl to make out with, cause that was their initial goal.
We're walking for about an hour when Gaten starts complaining.
"Guys... I'm tired. Why can't we just come back and let the girls find us?"
"Because" I turn around and lower the flashlight to face him. "If they get to us, they'll get our flag and win."
"I'm not agreeing with Gaten, but this path you're taking is a little creepy." Caleb says, pointing to the trail I was walking to. The other boys just nod with Caleb and look at me. I let out a frustrated sigh.
"Fine, then I'll go this way by myself. We're close to our spot, so if you stick around here just to check if the girls are coming, you won't get lost."
They all just nod, waving at me. I start walking, flashlight lightning my way, as I get myself through the woods. I can't deny, I'm afraid too, there are lots of animals here. The wind coming from behind me sends shivers down my spine and I turn around quickly.
Just when I realize that it was just the wind and the leaves moving, something collides with my back. I turn around at the same time as the person and my flashlight is right at her face. Her.
Millie.
"Put it down!" She says, with her arm covering her eyes.
I immediately lower the flashlight, as I stare at her. Strands of hair are falling of her ponytail, her shirt is not stuck inside her jeans anymore and she folded the end of her pants, showing her ankles and dirty All Star. She looks tired and angry.
Why is she always angry at me?
"Oh my God, won't you stop staring at me every time you see me?" She says, crossing her arms as a cold wind strikes us.
"Sorry." I reply almost whispering, really embarrassed.
"Ugh, whatever. I don't have my flag and obviously you don't have yours so I'll just keep looking cause I wanna win." She speaks as she walks fast by me, going where I just came from.
I smirk. I'm not on her team and I can't let her win, even with the affect she has on me. I grab her waist and turn her around, to face me. I did it to stop her, but I ended up pulling her against me so now it seems like I'm hugging her.
She freezes and stares at me blankly, but I swear I can see her lips almost forming a smile. Oh no, I'm weak again. I just can't stop admiring her and I can't let go. She then puts her hands on my chest and pushes me, but I keep on holding her, and we fall.
My back hits the ground and her chest hits my chest, our heads inches apart. We look into each other's eyes and I can't breathe for a second. The stars are shining above us, and my flashlight is turned on by my side, and she looks so pretty with all the lights on her. She looks like an angel.
I am about to apologize when she shakes her head smirking at me.
"Good luck, freckles." She says and winks.
What the actual heck? She just literally smirked and winked at me and what did she call me? I don't have much time to think about that nickname, cause she stands up and disappears, taking all that light and angelical glow with her. It all becomes dark, but strangely darker than before.
Damn, she took my flashlight.
