“Hello,” he says to Christina in his most dazzling smile.

“Hi,” Christina says uneasily.

“Have a seat please.”

Christina sits in the back of the class, as always. Except this time, she couldn’t take her eyes off the substitute teacher. All the girls in class seem to gleam at him. Christina caught herself and immediately stared down at her notebook as if it was the most interesting thing in the world.

Christina could feel his gaze on her as he spoke. She continued to study her notebook. Every now and then she would open the book and turn the pages. He walked down her aisle and when he reached her seat he put his hand on her shoulder. She refused to look at him. There was no way he was going to get her to look at him. “Isn’t that right Miss,” he looks at the clip board for her name, “Bolter?” all this time she took avoiding looking at him, she forgot to pretend to listen like she does with the other teacher lady. “Christina?” he asked again his voice echoing in the back of her head. Every eye in the room is now staring at Christina, waiting on her response. “Ummmm,” Christina says.

“Can someone please tell Ms. Bolter what is going on?”

Chelsea, Stacey’s best friend answers him, “We are talking about how Ms. Givens will not be back in class for the rest of the year and you will be our teacher-" she clears her throat, "excuse me-permanent substitute for the rest of the year and how we are going to be working hands-on like a social science class should. Then you asked if anyone had any questions.”

“Thank you Chelsea,” he says, his eyes never leaving Christina's as he waited for her to answer.

Christina could feel him looking at her to speak but when she didn’t he added, “Well Christina?”

“Weeeelll, I say no. Anyone else?” Christina looks around, scanning every face staring at her except Mr.? What is his name?

“My name is Mr. Delgado. Though, all my other students call me Mr. D. Fine by everyone here?” Everyone agrees that it was fine. Christina just kept staring at her notebook.

Christina felt like he was going to ask her something else but he was interrupted by a knock on the door, “Excuse me class,” a brief moment later he called for Christina. She wonders who it could be. When she reaches the door she realizes it's Ryan. Thank God for him. She notices the exchange between the faces of Ryan and Mr. D. Very strange, she thought. Quickly scurrying out the door she grabs Ryan’s wrist and drags him away, “Let’s go,” she demands.

“Ok so what was that all about?” Christina asks when they reach the car.

“What?”

“The eye thing with my teacher. Both of you exchanged some kind of look that says—“

“Says what?! Don’t start assuming things Christina, that’s how you make an ass out of you and me.”

“No you’re assuming things. Why are you so jumpy, yeesh.” Christina looks out the window as Ryan speeds away and notices, Mr. D. watching from the classroom window as they drive away. He had an angry look on his face. Something was definitely up with them and she was going to find out.

Ryan slammed Christina up against the wall and began trying to take her clothes off kissing her all over. Christina moaned out in pleasure then she came to her senses, “Wait, wait, wait. No let’s not do this.”

Ryan dropped her and gave her some space, “What? Why not?”

“Because.”

“Because…..what?”
