Five minutes into detention and Christina and Ethan couldn’t stop staring at each other. She bit her glossed bottom lip. He leaned on the desk in front of the class, and inquiring fist holding up his bottom lip. Christina exhales, “So, what are we going to do?”
“Me?”
“Yes you.”
“We aren’t doing anything; it’s you that will do all the work.”
“What?! Why?”
“For one, this is detention and you’re the detente.”
“Is that even a word?”
“I just said it didn’t I?”
“Well it’s not like you’re an English teacher.”
“Right but I’ve been here longer, experienced more things.”
“Yet you still look 23,” Christina smiles.
Ethan smiles, “Yes, what a compliment and you still look 17.”
“Maybe because I am still 17 well, 18 soon; how will you feel about me not being around this school next semester or next year?”
“Doesn’t matter to me, I’m just a substitute remember?”
“Yes I do. So why did you put on a tie?”
Ethan looks down, “Oh yeah the tie, um, maybe because someone had easy access to my shirt and chest.”
“Mmm,” She says walking towards him “Doesn’t create any more problems for me.” She grabs his tie and gentle pulls him towards her then leads him to his office in the back. She shuts and locks the door behind them. She closes the blinds. Christina walks over to Ethan and at first they’re just standing there admiring each other, then she pushes him down in the chair and sits on top of him slowly. He allows her to kiss him. It was slowly at first but then Ethan gripped her waist pulling her closer and forcing her to kiss him faster. Her gripped her hair and pulled it back dragging his tongue down the side of her neck. He extended his fangs, Bang, bang, Bang! Went the door and Christina jumped to the other side of the room. “Yes,” Ethan called out in regret. “Hey Ethan, it’s Sara, I was wondering if you still wanted to go over how the lesson plans work?” Ethan swore to himself. “Told you, you shouldn’t have said anything,” she points out. Ethan eyes her out the corner of his eye, “You didn’t say anything,” he whispers back. “Well, I thought it.” “No you didn’t.” “Dude, just face it I’m right!”
“I can hear you,” Ms. Rose points out. They start laughing. “I can STILL hear you. Who is that in there with you?” she asks peaking through the blinds. Can I, Christina mouths. He nods her permission still trying to straighten his self.
Christina opens the door while still sitting in the chair. When Ms. Rose walks in, she looks down at Christina’s smiling face. She mentally admired her shoes while cursing her at the same time. “Hello Ms. Rose,” Christina says in her most dazzling smile.
“Christina, what are you doing here?” Ms. Rose says surprised by her appearance.
“Detention, “Ethan and her say simultaneously. They both look down with a smile.
“Mm, okay then. Ethan?”
“Yes Rose?”
“About the lesson plans? What you want to do?”
“Uh, yeah, let me take her home and if I decide to come back you can show me all about it. If not, there’s always my planning tomorrow. Come on Christina.”
“Oh no, no, no I can manage.”
“Are you sure?” Ethan asks here.
“I’m sure she has it Ethan. Let her go. The quicker we get started the quicker we can finish. Now look at these.”
“Wait, Christina. I can take you home. I’m sure your parents wouldn’t mind,” Ethan says running behind Christina.
“Nope I got it.”
“I insist. I mean I wouldn’t be a good teacher if I didn’t make sure my student didn’t get home safely.” Ethan watched her twist her lips to the side, he could tell she was really debating this. “Okay,” she gives in. “Yes!” he says then grabs his coat. “Don’t stay here to late now Sara, lock up when you’re done too.” He mentally thanks Christina and she just smiles.
<<!>>
“This is it,” Christina points out.
“Oh really? It’s just a couple blocks from where we had coffee.”
“Yeah don’t I know.”
“Look Chrissy, on a serious note, I don’t want you to go in there.”
She smiles, “It’s okay. I’ve been living here for a while now I think I’m fine now. I can handle myself you know?”
“I’m sure you can, “he says caressing her hair, “but there is a danger in that building, I can sense it and I don’t want you living here. Come back with me, live with me. That was the original plan and we should stick to it now.”
“Look,” she puts her hand on top of his, “I can’t just up and leave. That’s not how this is about to work.”
“Why not Chrissy?” he asks.
“You know what? I’m tired of you asking all these questions.”
“Maybe if you answered them, I wouldn’t keep asking them.”
“Would that really solve this problem Ethan?”
He shakes his head, “I—I don’t know.”
“We never had this problem before.”
“We never had him in the way.” Christina turns around to see Ryan in the door frame, arms folded watching them. “Crap,” she says gathering all her stuff and rushes out the car. Ethan got out but not fast enough so he just stood in the doorway. Christina spoke really fast, too fast to understand, “Bye. Thank you for the ride. See you tomorrow. Later. Hey Ryan.” She almost hurts herself trying to get up the stairs and in the door. She speeds past Ryan and he grabs her arm and swings her back to him, then pushes her up against the door post, throwing her stuff everywhere. Right before he kisses her she whispers so quite, “owe”.
Ethan grabbed Ryan’s arm and pulls them apart, “Stop it. You’re hurting her.”
“Who are you?”
“I’m…I’m here teacher.”
“Well this is my girlfriend and we don’t need your help.”
“Girlfriend? Christina?” Ethan looks for her to correct this and she started to but when Ryan looked at her she dropped her head once again fading in the background. Ryan grabbed her shoulder pulling her into a side hug. Ethan could tell she was uncomfortable but she wouldn’t let him. She sent a mental message, Please don’t Ethan. Just back away and leave. Don’t make it worst than what it is. Ethan made a face but as soon as it was there it was gone. He did as he was told and watched as Ryan’s devilish grin spread wide on his face as he watched him claim his future wife. Oh but he had something for him, no matter what Chrissy says.
