(Narrator's POV)

Going around Snowdin during nightfall didn't bother Sans much really, but he knew he brother had a rather intense fear of the dark.

'What could he be up to..?' Sans wondered as he walked down the cold path, which began to get thinner as he exited the towny area.

The number of trees also began to thicken, and on the horizon he noticed a snowman sitting atop a small hill of snow. His scarf, although a bit tattered still lightly fluttered in the wind.

"Hey, have you seen a skeleton about this tall walk through here?" Sans had to stretch his arm quite a bit to indicate his younger brother's height.

The snowman got a thoughtful look, "hm, red scarf? Yelling something about human capturing?"

"Yup, that's him. He go down this path?" Sans questioned, peering down the dark, snowy entrance to his own post and then the ruins.

"Yeah, he did! Found it to be a bit strange as it's getting rather dark out, don't normally get very many visitors this time of night."

"Thanks." As the snowman was going to say something more, Sans vanished seemingly into thin air.

"Huh." The snowman blinked a few times, before going back to watching the gentle, but large amounts of snow coming down from the sky.

Teleporting was a rather quick way of getting around, first he checked at his station, and upon finding nothing teleported down the pathway to the ruins. Although rather dark, he could see the outline of a tall, lanky skeleton standing just outside the ruin's door, which towered over even him.

He seemed lost, both in thought and just in general. Sans raised an eyebrow, slowly taking another step forward.

"Uh, Bro? You doing alright?" Despite Sans' best efforts to remain quiet, Papyrus jumped and whirled around rather quickly.

"AH YES, when did you get here??" Papyrus noticeably seemed on edge, occasionally peering back at the ruin's door.

"I could ask you the same thing." Sans rested back against a tree, appearing rather calm.

"I asked you first!!" Papyrus crossed his arms.

"Couple seconds ago, was looking for you. It's after 10." Despite his calm, and relaxed demeanor, Papyrus could still tell Sans had been rather worried.

"Oh... sorry to worry you like that brother! I was simply patrolling for humans!" Papyrus smiled.

"... In the middle of the night?" Sans prodded.

"Eh... I wasn't planning on being out here this long. But we can head home now if you'd like brother!"

"Yeah, before both of us get "chilled to the bone." Sans snickered, as Papyrus stamped his foot on the ground.

"SANS!!!"

"What, you don't have a funny bone?" Sans chuckled, as Papyrus seemed to get angrier.

"SANS!!!" Papyrus sighed, but reigned his anger in, "let's just go home, alright?"

"Sounds good to me bro."

The two skeletons talked quietly as they made the short walk home through the snow as it covered their footsteps, erasing any trace of their presence there minutes ago. Their home was covered in festive Christmas lights, despite it being the middle of July. Papyrus realized just how tired he was, as he stepped inside and got hit with the warmth of the fireplace.

"I think I'm going to go to bed now, sleep well brother!" Papyrus smiled brightly at Sans, who nodded.

"Goodnight bro." Sans headed off into his room, and Papyrus headed off into his own.

As Papyrus slipped off into the gentle lull of sleep, his eyes cracked open one last time, to see out past his window the faint appearance of a red smiley face. But when he looked again, it was gone.
