The bonds tore into my wrists; blood coated the strands of the yarn. A firm hnad rested against my back then shoved me forward. Because of the force, my feet tangled together. Falling over, my body crumpled against the rough surface. A cloud of dust rose up into the air latching onto my lungs. Fingers crawled across my forearm pulling me up.
"Hey," a deep voice growled, " you don't need to damage her. She's gonna be roughed up in a bit anyway." He was one of the people that held my fiance in his place. My love wrestled against the two men containing him. Surrounding us were the members of his previous criminal gang. Anyone that leaves, leaves in a bodybag. And since I was the reason, both of us would be thrown into the nearby abyss. A perfect ending with a splat.
The edge of the ground came up into view; this was it... Connor wrestled against the men with a renewal of strength. He jumped up making them fall into their backs. An elbow on one stomach while crunching the other's body with his. Before he could do anything, another man came out from the crowd. Grabbing his shirt, he pulled him into his fist. Blood dripped down his chin.
"Stop," the sound wheezed out of my throat. "Please don't fight it anymore." Taking a deep breath, I calmed my erratic heart. "Heart beats fast,'" my singing rolled across the barren ground, "colors and promises. How to be brave; how can I love you when I'm afraid to fall? But watching you stand alone, all of my doubt, suddenly goes away somehow. One step closer," my guard guided me to the edge. Turning around, I locked eyes with Connor.
"I have died everyday, waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand years," in eternity.
His smooth, lulling voice took up the next chorus we knew by heart. "Time stand still; beauty in all she is. I will be brave. I will not let anything take away what's standing in front of me. Every breath, every hour has come to this." he flung his arm, colliding to men together.
Our voices merged as I was shoved backwards. "One step closer."
Connor grunted as he broke through the restraints. Three men advanced on him, drawing their swords.
I went onto the next verse without him. "I have died everyday, waiting for you. Darling don't be afraid, i have loved you a thousand years. I'll love you a thousand years more," in eternity together. A sword plunged into his heart while my foot slipped off the cliff.
Our voices rang together one last time loud and clear. Both of our eyes shimmered as we smiled. "One step closer; one step closer," into eternity. Eyes closing as we wanted our love to be the last thing we saw in this life.
