I had slept for four days, according to Alice. I had been out for Bella and Edward's house, Jake going to my dad, and my dad coming here. It had been a busy past couple of days, but everything seemed to be slowing down.
Everything, but Renesmee's growth rate. She seemed to be getting bigger and bigger every day. It was a constant question of how much time we truly had with her.
was with my sister, Renesmee and Jake out in the snow as we watched the little one play in the snow. I couldn't help but feel sad, as I'd never get to have what Bella has. I'd never get to have my own Renesmee.
I giggled as my niece jumped up in the air and came running towards the three of us. "Look, a snowflake." She spoke, her eyes lighting up in excitement.
"It's beautiful. Why don't you go get another one?" My sister questioned. We watched with fond eyes as she ran off and went to catch another.
"Edward thinks that we'll find answers in Brazil. There are tribes there that might know something."
My eye caught a blonde figure standing high above where we are. I felt the veins under my eyes rush with blood, but I quickly had to hide it from my sister. She still didn't know I was a traditional.
"Who was that?" Ness wondered. I smiled down at her and ran my hands through her chocolate curls. I had no clue myself who she was, so this was all up to my sister to explain.
"I think that's our cousin from Denali. Irina!"
I stayed with Ness while Bella went to run after the blonde vampire, but it was no use. Irina had run off. "Come on. Back to the house Jake." I told him, as I lifted Ness onto his back and climbed on myself.
"Tanya convinced Irina to come reconcile with us." Carlisle spoke as he walked into the living room where we were all currently gathered.
I snorted. Like hell she had been convinced to come and talk to us. "Well it looks like this Irina chick changed her mind."
The Cullens all looked over at me. Some had amused eyes (Emmett, Jasper, Esme and Rose) while the other just looked angry (Carlisle, Edward, Bella).
"Seeing Jacob must have been too much for her." The mother Cold one spoke.
I tuned out the rest of the conversation, focusing on the little specks of dirt in the air. I was still getting used to being a vampire and all the new things I could do. I had yet to take on Emmett in an arm wrestling match like my sister, or fight with Jasper. All were things I very much looked forward to.
I snapped out of my thoughts as the sound of glass shattering filled my ears. I snapped my head over to Alice who was in them middle of a vision. Jasper quickly shit his book and ran over to his wife.
"What is it, Alice?"
The petite vamp looked up at her husband with worried eyes. "The Volturi. They're coming for us. Aro, Caius, Marcus, the Guard. And Irina."
I felt a growl escape my lips as Alice told us what she saw. That little blonde vampire bitch was sentencing my sister to die. I felt the veins under my eyes rush with blood, and I knew I couldn't stop it.
"Piper... your eyes." My sister spoke, shocked. I ignored her and kept my focus on getting my anger under control.
"Carlisle. She hasn't fed in five days. Do we have anymore blood bags?" Rose questioned.
My hands were shaking as I clenched them in fists, drawing blood from my palms. I felt something land in my lap, and I looked down to see that it was a blood bag. I felt my canines sharpen and I tore into the bag, quickly drinking the contents.
Once I was done and calm, I told Bella that Edward would explain it later.
"What did Irina see in the woods?" Edward voiced, gaining the attention of his adopted sister. I didn't say anything. I had no desire to say anything. It was best if I kept my mouth shut at this point in time.
"We were just walking." My sister tells her husband.
"Ness was catching snowflakes." Jake smiled.
Edward looked as if he had been slapped by reality. Something in that empty head of his clicked. "Of course. Irina thinks Renesmee's an Immortal Child."
I found myself in the study as Carlisle told us the history of the forbidden Immortal Children.
"The Immortal Children were very beautiful. So enchanting. To be near them was to love them. But their development was frozen at the age they were turned. They couldn't be taught or restrained. A single tantrum could destroy an entire village. Humans heard about the devastation. Stories spread. The Volturi were forced to intervene. Since the Children couldn't protect our secret, they had to be destroyed."
Images of burning children filled my mind and I felt a few tears slip down my cheeks.
"Their creators grew very atached and fought to protect them. Long-established covens were torn apart. Countless humans slaughtered. Traditions, friends, even families. Lost."
This is a very depressing story. I never wanted to witness it or hear it again.
"So the Denalis' mother made an Immortal Child?" My sister finally spoke.
Carlisle looked at her with sullen eyes. "Yes. And so she paid the price."
I scoffed. "Maybe that's why she's so depressing." I muttered, knowing the Cullens could all hear me.
"Well, Renesmee's nothing like those children. She was born, not bitten. She grows every single day." My sister defended her child.
"So can't you just explain that to the Volturi?" Jake chimed in.
Edward looked at the two, his empty head trying to think of something.
"Aro has enough proof in Irina's thoughts."
"So we fight."
I felt the veins under my eyes rush with blood again. I was not going to die because Irina didn't let us explain.
"Their offensive weapons are too powerful. No one can stand against Jane." Jasper voiced.
"Alec's even worse." Alice confirmed.
My sister had a frustrated look on her face.
"Well, then we convince them."
Emmett scoffed. "They're coming to kill us, not to talk."
I then had a stroke of genius. "No, you're right. They won't listen to you. But maybe others can convince them. Carlisle, you've been alive forever, you've got friends all around the world."
The Doctor Vamp looked over at me. "I won't ask them to fight."
Edward caught on to what I was trying to say, and jumped to my aid. "Not fight. Witness. If enough people knew the truth, maybe we could convince the Volturi to listen."
I watched Esme turn to her husband, her eyes pleading. "We can ask this of our friends."
And just like that, we all started packing our bags. We set out tomorrow to gather enough witnesses so the Volturi wouldn't kill us all.
