I'll Never Let Them Hurt You, I Promise [A Frerard]

Chapter 6

Frank has been sleeping well for the past week.

Everything has been pretty normal. They would wake up and work on the new song, have breaks, and then go to bed as usual. Frank barely talked to Gerard. They barely got alone time now, and Frank thought that's one reason why they barely talk now.

Gerard finally came up with a title for a new song. He decided they would call it Vampires Will Never Hurt You. Frank's mind flashed back to the night he first heard Gerard say those words. His voice sounded like he had been crying.

Frank had been trying to go to sleep one Friday night. He just kept hearing a song in his head. Not the vocals, his guitar. 

He thought it might fit well with Vampires Will Never Hurt You.

They haven't gotten very far on the song, either. Only the solo and they decided Gerard would scream in some parts.

Frank gave up on trying to go to sleep. He jumped out of bed and ran into Gerard's room.

He was sitting on the bed, pencil in his hand, a blue notebook sitting on his lap. When Frank walked in he looked up and he gave him a confused look.

"What are you doing awake?"

"Ok mom. Well, I have some ideas for the guitar in Vampires."

Gerard smiled.  "Tell me in the morning. We can't leave Mikey and Ray out, ya know."

"Look, I won't be able to sleep in till I play it for you."

Gerard sighed. "Go get your guitar, I guess."

Frank grinned like a happy toddler and rushed into his room to grab it. He returned and sat on the edge of the bed. Gerard scooted next to him.

Frank played the notes he heard in his head. It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough to show him what he meant. Gerard watched in silence, somewhat amazed by the way he played. At one point he wasn't even listening to the song, he was just paying attention to the way Frank played.

Frank stopped playing and put the guitar down, leaning it against the bed.

"Well, I'm going back to my bed now."

Frank jumped off the bed and Gerard leaned over and grabbed his arm. "No. Stay. I haven't talked to you in forever."

Frank stood there for a minute, and then climbed back on the bed. 

"Aren't you tired?" Gerard asked.

"Well, yeah. I was tried but I couldn't sleep because of the guitar things. That's why I was going to go back to bed.."

Gerard looked at him and smiled. "Lay down. You can sleep now if you want."

Frank wasn't sure what to do, but he obeyed and put his head against the pillow. Gerard laid down on the right across from him. Frank had his back turned to Gerard.

Gerard scooted closer and Frank closed his eyes. Gerard took a deep breath and started singing quietly.

"And if they get me and the sun goes down into the ground."

Frank started drifting off at the sound of his voice. It sounded so angelic somehow. Frank has never heard the song before, but it made a good lullaby in a disturbing way. Disturbing but beautiful.

He knew there was screaming in the song, but Gerard just left it out. His voice was so quiet and calm it was almost unreal.

Frank fell asleep by the end of the song.
