"WAKE UP!" my mom shouts while attacking me with a pillow because this is apparently the third time she's attempted to wake me up. I can't be blamed.....I was tired......those two short 5 minute naps were necessary. Anyways, I'm a junior high student. It's almost the end of the school year, and since it's my 3rd year, I'm ready to graduate and escape living hell. I...still don't have a quirk and at this point doubt I ever will. I thought that I would gain my mother's quirk, manipulating water. I've never really known what my father's quirk was since my parents separated when I was a little after five years of age. I'm so curious as to why they split up but every time I ask, my mom avoids the question or changes the topic. My mother and I went to a doctor recently to test whether I would have a quirk, even though this was the fourth time we've done this, we still had hope. I've got only one toe joint and everything but it just hasn't "manifested" yet. Who heard of someone getting a quirk at age 14? The only other person who understands my struggle is Izuku...

"I'M UP!!" I shout back while still laying in bed.

"Get up then!" my mom shouts back refusing to leave me alone. Since she obviously won't stop, I drag myself out of bed. I get ready for the day and head out the door. I always walk to school with Izuku because we live pretty close to each other and my house is on the way to school so he stops to wait for me. I tell him to go on without me if I take too long because I'm probably oversleeping.

"Hey (N/n)!" Izuku calls for me as I jog to his side.

"Izu~kun!" I shout as we begin walking to school.

Today as we walked to school it was peaceful and calm. We were both quiet but it was a comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's company. It was pretty nice until I was rudely interrupted....by a tree branch. Luckily, I whacked the branch away from my face before it made impact.

"Are you ok?!" Izuku worriedly asks me as my cheeks turn light pink from embarrassment. The branch was obvious, but I was spacing out and was oblivious to my surroundings...as usual.

About 5 minutes of awkward silence pass and I notice Izuku is a few paces ahead of me. His backpack is slightly open, revealing a notebook hanging out of the side.

"Izuk--" I am cut off as the notebook slides right out of his backpack along with a few pencils and an eraser. The sound of the journal hitting the ground frightens him, making him jump. I chuckle a little.

"O-oh I didn't....whoops!" He blurts out, blushing profusely. We pick up the items off the sidewalk. I make sure his backpack is fully closed this time. Izuku spots a notebook lying on the ground that we must have missed, but I grab it before he gets the chance to.

"Hey! What's this....a new hero journal. Number 13! Hmm...nope I haven't even glanced at this yet." I start asking him loads of questions about what he has written. His cheeks become a light shade of pink because of all the praise I give him on the details he wrote on each page. I skim through the journal. "You think I could borrow it later today?!" I ask while skipping around, waiting for him to answer. He nods and we continue to discuss different heroes....mostly All Might because....it's Izuku we are talking about. He's got tons of merchandise related to the number one superhero. Talking about heroes is super interesting to me, so walking to school didn't feel as stressful as it usually does.

A few minutes later, we see it, Orudera Junior High School. I take a deep breath and confidently walk into school with Izuku trailing not far behind. School doesn't start for a good 30 minutes so there aren't many people in front of the entrance. Izuku and I decided a few weeks ago that it would be a better idea to arrive earlier to avoid...trouble. The students at this school bully others who don't have quirks. Personally, I think it's the most idiotic thing. It is similar to making fun of somebody for something that is out of their control. It makes no sense. It's like making fun of someone for having a certain eye color.

This brings me to my second reason for arriving earlier to school. Katsuki Bakugou. I need to mentally prepare myself for this guy because the short amount of time I spend out of school is not enough. Are the teachers and staff at our school blind or......do they just let him blow up whatever he wants? Does seamlessly destroying school property count as a permanent mark on his record? It probably should. I don't understand how or why he gets away with the stuff he does. It's become second nature for me to protect Midoriya when it comes to Bakugou. I can't wait for the day that someone will come along with a powerful quirk and knock some sense into his egotistical behind. Don't worry, I won't miss it, I'll have popcorn prepared and everything! Honestly......he never had such a big ego and I'm hoping the faze will pass as soon as it began. I miss those days on the playground....

Anyways, Izuku sits about three seats away from me. I take my seat and read quietly to myself. I was going to ask Midoriya to get the Hero Analysis notebook so I could start reading, but I didn't want to bother him. He seemed super peaceful, scrolling through whatever was on his phone. Others start to walk in and, as usual, they stop and stare like we just became third years two days ago. I avoid eye contact, especially when Bakugou entered the room. I didn't want to start anything minutes before class starts.

"It's time to start thinking about your futures!" the teacher remarks quite loudly, making me jolt up in my seat. He made me lose my page....I really need to get a bookmark and stop folding creases in the book. Once he noticed he had everyone's attention, he continued. "You guys are all third years now. I would hand out these future career forms but..." he stops, giving me a moment to realize how much work it would be to fill out those forms. I'm feeling unbelievably lazy today and I can't trust myself to write out a proper form. ".....I assume you ALL want to be heroes!" the entire class gets excited, showing off their quirks. I sigh happily, less work for me. The teacher continues "Yes, you all have amazing quirks!" he states. I take notice of all the different types of powers my peers possess. How is pulling your eyes out of their socket heroic? I massage my forehead, getting a slight headache from all the noise. I kind of fazed out while Bakugou and the rest of my classmates fought with one another. Then I heard something about U.A. highschool and snapped back to reality.

"...I'll even surpass All Might and become the best hero out there!" Bakugou exclaims proudly while standing on his desk. When did that happen? He seemed to have finished his speech and I was about to reach for my book again. I really need to know what happens next!

"You two are also going for U.A., right Midoriya and (L/n)?" our home room teacher asks, putting emphasis on our names. I didn't even know Izuku wanted to attend U.A. High School. I try to make eye contact with Izuku but he is covering his face. I see all the students glaring at us and I wince, bracing myself for what was about to occur.
