Liz's pov: I heard a familiar sound at my window making me jolt right up in my bed. However I wasn't ever sleeping. It's been hard to sleep these past few weeks. Though I've been getting better at getting some sleep these past few days. I think I have James to thank for that. I finally got out of bed after a few moments then walked over to my window and opened it. I stuck my head out the window and looked down to find Zach standing there. I sighed, but if I'm being honest it was really nice to see him.
"What do you want, Zach?" I asked.
"Okay so before you even begin to protest how about we go on an adventure?" Zach asked.
"That's not a go-" I started to say, but he cut me off.
"Yeah, yeah it's not a good idea, but how would you know if it's a good idea or not when you don't even give it a shot?" Zach said.
I opened and closed my mouth a few times as I tried to think of what to say next. I knew he had a point, but I also knew it most likely wasn't a good idea. I stuck my head back inside and closing my window. I backed away a bit and watched Zach sigh then slowly make his way back to his car.
"Oh fuck it." I thought to myself before I quickly grabbed my phone and ran out of my room.
"Wait for me." I said just as he had gotten to the driver's door.
I watched Zach looked up at me, and at first he looked shocked to see me, but then he smiled. I closed my front door and began to walk towards his car. We both got into his car silently then he began to drive.
"So why the change of heart?" Zach asked.
"I knew I wasn't gonna be able to fall back to sleep." I lied, "so this was the best option."
"Sorry for waking you." He said.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"You'll see." He said.
I glanced sideways at him to see him looking straight at the road. I couldn't help, but think he looked perfect in this moment. His jawline looked as sharp as always. His hair was messy -which is just the way I've always liked it. However he looked like he hasn't been sleeping very well.
"Have you been getting any sleep?" I blurted out.
Zach glanced at me quickly before looking back at the road.
"Some." He simply said.
"You need to get more sleep." I said.
"So do you." He said.
"I've been sleeping just fine." I lied.
"Mhm if you say so." He said.
I turned on the radio and New Rules by Dua Lipa began to play.
One, one, one, one, one...
Talkin' in my sleep at night, makin' myself crazy
(Out of my mind, out of my mind)
Wrote it down and read it out, hopin' it would save me
(Too many times, too many times)
My love, he makes me feel like nobody else, nobody else
But my love, he doesn't love me, so I tell myself, I tell myself
One: Don't pick up the phone
You know he's only callin' 'cause he's drunk and alone
Two: Don't let him in
You'll have to kick him out again
Three: Don't be his friend
You know you're gonna wake up in his-
The song stopped and I looked to see the radio was turned off. I looked at Zach to see his jaw clenched and his hands gripped on the steering wheel.
"You okay, Z?" I asked softly.
He seemed to settle down a bit because his hands were no longer gripping the steering wheel and his jaw was more relaxed. He sighed.
"Yeah, yeah I'm all good." He said.
