26. The Return II

Draco felt it. He felt it all. She was here. With him. She was holding his hand. Oh how he wanted to tightened his hand around hers.

But he couldn't.

She was brushing the hair at his forehead. He wanted to swat it away because she knew it annoyed him.

But he couldn't.

Then she was tracing his eyelids. Oh how he wanted to sigh in contentment.

But he couldn't.

And then she....kissed him ?

Merlin he had to kiss her back!

But he couldn't.

And then she whispered something which he didn't understand and then there was silence. He heard his surname but nothing else. She was here at least. And that was enough.

And then he felt an all to familiar arm snake around his waist and an all too familiar scent blocked his already blocked senses as she placed her head in the crook of his neck and placed feathery light kisses on his chest.

Oh Merlin! How he wanted to wrap her in his arms and never let go.

But he couldn't.

Hermione woke up with a start and she looked around. She was on the....floor ? Memories of last night came rushing in and she immediately sat up. She looked over at Draco and sighed. She got up and fixed herself before settling down next to him.

A tear rolled down her cheek and she held his hand to her chest.

" I don't know what happened Draco. Or even how it happened. All I know is that I love you. And I won't be able to make it without you. Please. Please never leave me.", she cried.

" I love you so much.", she pressed a kiss to his forehead.

" So much that if you die Malfoy, then I'm going to join you.", she said as she held up her chin defiantly, but she soon deflated.

" But please. Don't die okay ? I miss you...too much. You didn't have to do this. I was going to come back anyway. You know that I can't sleep without you for more than a week." She sighed.

" I love you Draco Malfoy; even if you don't love me.", she said and kissed his cheeks. " In that way.", she added.

And then she left; oblivious to the pair of silver eyes that had just opened and the hand that was placed on the cheek that she had just kissed.

Draco Malfoy was back.

Hermione was in her bedroom when she heard Ron come home. She sighed and made her way towards the lounge. Lavender smiled at her and left the two alone. Hermione stood in front of him.

" I'm sorry. I didn't even notice when I fell asleep.", she made an apologetic face.

Ron gave her a crooked smile.

" It's quite alright. I know how you must've felt. And I told everyone that I was in the room.", he smirked.

Hermione allowed a smile to play at her lips but it didn't reach her eyes.

Just then, Neville came in bursting through the door.

" Malfoy's up! Draco's up! Draco Malfoy's up!!", he yelled and then stormed out.

Hermione and Ron just stood there, gaping at what had just happened.

And then suddenly Ron shouted "DRACO IS UP!!!"

Lavender came in running.

" What ???", she squeaked.

" Yes!", Ron grinned. He looked over at Hermione who hadn't said a word.

" Hey!", he touched her arm.

Hermione seemed unfazed by it. It was like she was in her own world.

"Hermione. He's back.", Ron smiled at her.

" I-i....but I can't face him.", she said with wide eyes.

" And why the hell not? ", Lavender growled.

" Because....because everybody thinks that I'm responsible for his condition and what if he thinks the same. I can't exactly just saunter in, now can I ?

" Oh come on Mione. You know us better. We aren't monsters who'd blame you!"

Hermione shook her head.

"That's not what I meant. I need some time to calm myself. I just. ....I just don't want to see him in the hospital. I want to see him at....home.", she smiled at the thought of home.

Lavender snorted. " Fine. But we're going.", she grabbed Ron's arm who gave her an apologetic look. She dismissed it by shaking her head and smiling slightly. And then they disapparated with a 'pop'.

As soon as they disappeared, Hermione started jumping. She was 'EEE-ING' and 'AAH-ING'. She was too happy.

" He's back. He's back. He's back.", she sang all the way as she walked around the whole house. More like jumped around the whole house.

I love you Draco Malfoy.

Her words kept repeating in his head. And he was grinning.
Like an idiot.
And he knew it.

" Draco! You're staring into space again! ", Pansy waved her hand in front of him.

Draco shook his head and looked at her, but the grin never left his face.

Until.

" Hey mate. It's good to have you back.", Ron entered and patted his back awkwardly.

" It really is.", Lavender said and nodded at him with a smile.

He sat up straight and tried to look past them.

Ron sighed. " She didn't come. "

Draco stilled. She didn't ?

"Oh.", was all he managed.

Pansy's eyes narrowed dangerously. " And why the hell not? ", she seethed.

" Well you see she-", Lavender was cut off as the door opened and Daphne flung her arms around Draco.

" Oh Draco. Draco. Dracooo. You scared us all to death.", she mumbled into his neck.

Draco smiled. No, he tried to smile.

" I'm alright now, aren't I? ", he said.

Pansy had noticed how her best friend, who didn't seem to be able wipe that grin off his face, was now having trouble smiling. She was absolutely furious!

'GRANGERRRRR' she growled and yelled inside her head. Blaise seemed to know what she was doing so he wrapped her in his arms and kissed her head. She relaxed a bit but not completely.

After a while, when everybody was talking among themselves, Draco took this moment to observe them.

Theo and Luna were whispering and Luna's face was crimson red.

Pansy and Daphne looked like they were arguing. Neville and Blaise, at either side of them, were looking as bored as anything.

Ron, Harry and Lavender were trying to calm down a very furious Ginny Weasley.

Draco closed his eyes to swat the feeling of loneliness away, but it just wouldn't go.

"I love you too.", he mumbled before drifting off to sleep.
