30. The Formality

"I can't believe Ron got married.", she mumbled into his chest.

Draco chuckled.

"And why can't you believe it ?"

She sighed and snuggled closer to him. " I don't know. Like I just......We're all grown up now and getting married. It all just seems so surreal."

He rubbed her arm and kissed her temple.

" Granger ?"

" Mhmmm? ", her voice vibrated off his chest.

" Marry me ?", he asked her quietly.

She sat up and looked at him with wide eyes.

" You.....you're serious? ", it was a half statement half question.

He gave her a cocky grin.

" Too good to be true. I know. But yes, I am serious.", he smirked.

Hermione's eyes filled with tears and her lips quivered but there was a smile playing at them.

" And where's my ring ?", she asked in trembling voice with a hint of humour.

Draco took her face between his hands and looked at her straight in the eye. Taking a deep breath, he began, " I love you Hermione Granger and I want to marry you. This may not be the best proposal; hell it wasn't even a proposal proposal but I ask you to be my wife and change my life completely. I want you to fill the hole in my heart that only you can fill. You're mine Granger. I knew it was more than just about finding a lost Order member when I reverted back to old ways. Hell I'm a murderer. I've killed a man. There's blood on my hands- and you Granger,  are the epitome of perfection. You're pure. Snow-White pure. But I'm a slytherin. I'm selfish. And I'm not going to leave you. I have been carrying this around with me since the day you fell into that coma. I was going to propose to you that day, but fate has its ways and I wouldn't change even a bit of it. I love you Hermione Granger." He wiped at his eyes.

He took his wand and aimed it at the band he always wore. It changed into a diamond ring and Hermione gasped. She sobbed and kissed the corner of his mouth. " I love you. I love you. I love you so much." She cried.

He placed the ring on her finger and kissed her hand. She was brick red from crying. He cupped her face and wiped her tears.

"We start new.", he whispered.

" We start new.", she agreed.

He captured her lips in a sweet yet desperate kiss and didn't let go. They just held onto each other for the rest of the night- doing nothing, or doing everything.

It was officially the best day of their lives.

" So when do we tell them ?", Hermione asked Draco as she placed a plate of pancakes in front of him.

" Thank you. Well it's up to you.", he smiled at her.

Her heart picked up pace. Merlin! The things his smile could do.

"It's rude to stare Granger.", he drawled with a smirk.

She blushed and smacked his arm.
" I wasn't staring. I was just looking."

He chuckled. " Right."

" I think it's right that we tell your parents first.", she said as she swallowed a bite that Draco had put in her mouth.

Draco gave her a cocky grin. " Trying to impress the in laws, are we ?"

"Oh shut up.", she snorted.
