( REAL LIFE! )
( SIXTY TWO! )
IF THERE WAS ONE THING THAT WAS CERTAIN in the eyes of Myra, it was that she cared for Eddie Kaspbrak. She cared that he would be all hers. She cared that he would be protected.
And if there was one other thing that was certain, it was that Myra did not know what the word 'cared' meant.
It had been two weeks since Eddie had broken up with her, or rather said they needed a 'break'. She knew that was code for 'break up' however, as that was just plain common knowledge. It had been around 2:30 on a Tuesday evening when she decided to contact him. The brunette girl would be lying if she said she didn't like Eddie. Because she did like him, immensely.
She had gone about it wrong, she had been terrible, she had been horrible, but somewhere deep down there she did care for him. But that care would never surface, over clouded by the selfishness, manipulation and evilness she would use while their relationship had lasted.
His aura was lemon grass and gingerbread. It was so strong he radiates yellow beams. And Myra would never tell him, but she hated it.
Beverly Marsh had always thought in some alternate reality, Myra was a good person. She and Eddie would be happy together and possibly settle down.
She was glad that reality wasn't this one.
Myra had sent the text asking to talk at the quarry almost ten minutes ago, and she still couldn't stop staring at it.
He said yes.
She had immediately gotten dressed in some of her best clothes. Red blouse, black skirt and white stockings. She thought the whole ensemble complimented her rather well, and she then did her hair and put on perfume. She wasn't sure why, but for some sort of reason, she felt nervous.
Nervous. She smiled to herself and pinched the side of her shirt. She shouldn't be nervous, and she reminded herself of that. Everything was going to go smoothly, everything was going to be fine. It was one hour and a half till she was supposed to meet him, and she couldn't be more excited.
She had started to forget him. His laugh, his smile, his eyes. She couldn't even recall what his voice sounded like anymore, and it was driving her insane. The brunette looked at herself one more time in the mirror before exiting her room and leaving the house.
She got to the lake at around 3:45 due to how far it was from her house. The brunette wasn't sure of what to do in the spare time, and just stared at the glimmering body of water in front of her as she sat on a rock. She compulsively had checked her watch for the next ten minutes. It was 3:56 and she wished the next four minutes would last forever. She wanted to see Eddie but she didn't want to at the same time. It was nerve racking.
"Hey." She heard a voice surface behind her. Myra took in a deep breath of humid air and gripped her thigh.
"Hey." She said, still not turning around. She didn't need to look at them to know who it was. Eddie. His voice flowed through her mind like an old memory.
"I got your message. 'Meet me at the quarry at 4'." He told her, repeating her words back to her as he held up his phone. He walked towards her and sat next to her on the rock. She bit the side of her cheek in fear.
"Yeah." She whispered. No one spoke.
"I wanted to apologize." She broke the silence, not really thinking of the words but wanting to not suffocate in the silence. Eddie looked at her as the continued, "I'm sorry. For everything. It's just I care for you, Eddie. And my emotions just got the better of me. And I screwed up, a lot. And I'm sorry."
"Yeah, you did. A lot. Why did you lie to me?" The thing that broke Myra was that he sounded hurt. Don't worry, Eddie. I'll fix it. I'll fix everything. She thought to herself, playing with the hem of her black skirt.
"Because I don't trust her, didn't trust her." She re phrased her words mid sentence. She still didn't trust Beverly. But saying that would not be very convincing as an apology.
She didn't even see why she needed to apologize, really. Yes, she made some mistakes, but couldn't Eddie see she made them because she loved him? She loved him so much and it was eating her alive.
"Beverly?" He asked her, his voice raspy. Myra took a breath in, soaking in his rays. The smell of lemons almost overtook her nostrils so much she could feel them tingle.
"Yeah, her." She stated bluntly. Eddie looked taken a back by how straightforward her response was, "I know that really doesn't excuse what I did, but that's the reason why I did it. Maybe a sort of rivalry?"
"She can be intimidating." He hummed silently to himself, almost as if he wasn't sure of what to say. He stared at his feet with a worried expression on his face as he fiddled with his thumbs in his lap. "Myra, do you still like me?"
There it was. The question she knew she would be asked, even though she didn't want to answer. Of course she liked him. That's why she was here. Saying things she didn't mean, that she was sorry. She wasn't. She would do them a thousand times over if it meant she'd be with Eddie again.
"Yeah,"I love you. "But I know you don't." I want you too.
"I mean, what you did was..." He didn't finish his sentence, simply looking at the sky. Myra counted the freckles on his pale skin. It was the end of the summer, and soon they would fade.
"It was stupid. I don't even know why I tried to break you guys from each other besides petty reasons." She but her tongue to stop herself from saying anything she was thinking of, "You guys are best friends and I was just... I should have respected my place."
"Is that what you came to say?" He said, his shirt blowing on his small figure and clinging desperately to him. It irked her. She almost pointed it out too, before she snapped out of her trance.
"No," she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear as the wind blew past them much more violently, "I also wanted to apologize for something else."
"I do want to be your friend." She sighed, and looked at him in the eyes. Her heart had dropped out of her chest she was so nervous, "Really badly. Because you're super nice and I want to be around you. And I get it's not going to be as a girlfriend or whatever, but maybe just as a friend?"
"I'd be lying if I say I don't care about you, but who's to say you won't lie again?" He asked her, turning his head completely to face her. Her stomach twisted in fear. She averted his gaze and looked at the ground.
"No one." She whispered, feeling shame in her words and speaking up much louder, "You'll have to trust me."
It was quiet for a long while. Myra held her breath as the wind blew hair in her face. She looked at Eddie's face, stealing a quick glance to calm her nerves, which were spiking out of control. He had no expression in his face that she could recognize. He took in a deep breath.
"I trust you."
