Chapter 2
Last night was pure torture. I stormed out the restaurant and now I'm grounded. Well, that isn't going to last long since they're making me leave for Troy, Alabama on Monday. Today is Thursday, so, I have three more days with my friends. Technically I have one, because I have two days to pack. I guess today counts, too.
Back to the point: Turns out my family is really alive. Why did they give me up? Why do they all of a sudden want to see me again? This is messing with my brain. I need to put this aside right now and get dressed for graduation.
I'm just in a simple high low dress and heels. Nothing special. I don't get why I should have to dress up for this. Oh well. If I could, I would go to the celebration, or whatever it's called, in my pajamas. But, no, I have to be dressy.
The drive there is short, but I still am sort of anxious to get there, but at the same time, I'm not. I'm anxious because I'm going to be in front of a lot of people and I'm not because I don't want to see my friends cry, and I don't want to cry.
"Are you ready to be an official high school freshman?" Hannah asked.
"Yes ma'am," I sheepishly smile and step out of the car. I stuff my phone into my bra and walk into the room where the graduates wait.
"Laci!" I shout when I walk in. Everybody gives me weird looks, but I don't care. My other friends walk up with her and greet me. Macey, Katelyn, and Peyton all stand with Laci. Two more people walk up, but walk away. Okay, then.
"So, when are we having the last hangout?" Macey asks.
I shrug my shoulders and answer, "I leave Monday. Today is Thursday. I need Saturday and Sunday for packing, so Friday."
"I have stuff to do, so I can't come. Sorry Adalyn," Katelyn sighs.
"I have dress rehearsal for recital," Laci looks down at her feet.
"I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go to my dad's house," Macey replies. So, I'm going to be alone Friday.
"Why don't you hang out with your boyfriend," Laci smirks.
If she only knew that we broke up last night. He doesn't like the fact that I'm leaving, so he ended it. Laci notices my glum face and apologizes.
"It's okay," I try to laugh it off. I change my mood, well try to, and I slip off my heels.
"These babies are going back on when we go across the floor," I laugh and hold the pumps by the heel.
"Wow, I can't believe that it's time to go on to high school. I feel like yesterday that we saw Matt shoving crayons up his nose," Katelyn said. All of us started to laugh and we drew more attention to ourselves. But we don't care.

"Adalyn Teegan," my homeroom announced my name. I stood up and everybody clapped. I slowly walk up to the stage and accept my award.
"Mrs.Teegan is graduating the eighth grade with a 4.0 grade average," Mr.Rollins continued. I posed for a picture and then walked back to my seat. They continue to call names. The last name finally come up and it's the Russian student, Daniel Z. Don't ask about his last name because I have no idea.
"Ladies and gentleman, please do not leave yet. Our presentation is not over yet," Mr.Keith, our principle announces. "Please welcome our males of eighth grade. They have a very special dance for you all." This should be very interesting.

"That was hilarious!" Laci started to laugh.
"Did you see Elliot?" Macey laughed. She has a crush on him. So, of course, she would notice him.
"Oh my gosh yeees!" Katelyn exclaimed. I'm deciding to stay quiet through all of this. We're sitting in Olive Garden and the last person that I wanted to see in this restaurant is my ex-boyfriend, Brady. I don't really want to see him.
"Adalyn, what was your favorite part of the dance?" Katelyn asked. I shrug my shoulders and look ahead of me. He's staring right at me. I look back down and start scrolling through Instagram. I start watching a video of my cousin, but that's cut short because of a certain somebody texting me.
IGNORE: Like what you see?
I laugh and ignore the text message. I look up and he's talking to his friends. I show the text to Laci and she bursts out laughing. Everybody at our table looks at us and our parents, who are beside us. Yeah, we're hilarious. Technically, we aren't. It's Brady who is.
Katelyn takes my phone from me and reads the text. Okay, then. She laughs and then shows it to Macey. Macey stops laughing when a new text message comes through. I take my phone back and it's from him again. I don't bother reading it and I stuff my phone in my bra.
I laugh at my own joke, that wasn't exactly a joke. I look over at him again and he's looking at me. Forget the Wonder Pets, Brady has Wonder Eyes. That was, and still is, my favorite kid's television show.
Is that our waitress? Because I really want food right now. I may or may not want to eat my feelings away, but that doesn't matter right now. While we eat, it's all silence at our table. My phone buzzes, but this time it's from Hannah.
Momma: Change of plans, sweetheart. You have to leave tonight. Your tickets are actually for today.
Without though, I spit out my food and look over at their table. She couldn't tell me after we left Olive Garden? Excuse me, but I'd rather not have a huge shocker in the middle of a public place. I get up from my chair and run the best I can in heels to the bathroom. Okay, maybe running was a bit exaggerated, but I walked pretty fast.
I'm not too happy right now and I'm not packed. I don't want to spend my summer with the family that abandoned me. Okay? Okay. I begin to cry and think I'm alone until somebody else walks into the bathroom. I turn around and see Hannah through my blurred vision.
"Hunny, I'm sorry. I just wanted to tell you in a fashion to where you wouldn't freak out on me?" she apologizes.
Well, I'm about to freak out on this lady.
