When class was over I accompanied John back to his house, he was still a blushing mess but he tried to act confident. Telling me about himself and what animals he likes. Lafayette and Hercules lived close together, but they lived away from John's so we didn't have them disrupting us. Which was fine by me.

"Tell me, do you believe in demons?" I ask, not looking at him.
"Sorta." John answered nervously.
"What would you do if you met one?" We were a few blocks away from our destination. Both of us were walking extremely slow, really enjoying the time we were spending together.
"Well. . .I don't know really. . .I mean I'd be scared yeah. . .but why do you ask?"
I shrugged, "No reason."

"Do you wanna go out?" I asked after a moment of silence.
John looked a bit shocked and stopped walking.
"So we get to know each other better before Jake's party." I added.

With only a slight hesitation, he nodded a yes.

Sure I felt like I was rushing things, but c'mon I'm dying in 4 days gotta live a little until then.

"Great, c'mon." I grinned and grabbed his hand before leading him somewhere in town. "Wait?! Right now?" I nodded still taking him with me.

Since I've never been here, and by here I ment this part of the world before, I was forced to let John lead the date. He took me to his favorite bookstore and bakery during the process. His eyes shined when we were inside the bookstore.

"So, what books do you read?" I ask, glaring at the old homophobe from behind John.

"Oh um, anything really, I like historical books alot, most likely near the American Revolution." He sighed dreamily clutching a book he planned on buying.

I wanted to steal something so badly.
So I did.

While no one was looking I stole, 'Lin Manuel-Miranda' without getting caught. I began chuckling whenever John finnaly finished buying books and we walked out.
"What's so funny?" He asked. I wrapped an arm around his shoulders and just chuckled a low, "Nothing."

We sat under a tree at Old Maple Park. John muched gleefully on pastries we bought at the bakery. I sat beside him reading out loud one of the books he bought, his eyes were closed, as if he was picturing the words in his own world.

"You love not me,
And love alone can lend you loyalty;
–I know and knew it. But, unto the store
Of human deeds divine in all but name,
Was it not worth a little hour or more
To add yet this: Once you, a man, came
To soothe a time-torn man; even though it be
You love not me?"

I stared at these words for a second. "So you like poetry?"
John nods, his eyes still closed,"It brings me peace. Don't you like poetry?"

The answer to that was more complicated than it might seem. Sure poets would come to hell here and there and the poetry was beautiful, but when they were getting tortured, they recited paragraphs and sonnets of pain filled beauty. Every second of their near coming death was even more painful to the person assigned to torture them. They did not wail nor cry, which for an odd reason made it more difficult.

"Yeah." I managed to say through gritted teeth, looking away. "Beautiful."

I continued to recite poetry and somewhere in between John moved and layed his head on my lap. I played with his hair while still reading softly. Then he fell asleep.

Old Maple Park was almost empty, just us and a man. He seemed familiar in a way. When I thought he would leave he came closer to us. It was then that I saw the horns sticking out of his blonde head.

I knew I couldn't get up without waking John and I didn't want him knowing about demons yet so all I could manage to do is growl a low and  hateful growl. "Who the fuck are you?"

"John Adams at your service." He grinned. "Oh and what a lovely man you have there? Mind sharing a piece?"

Adams went in to take a bite but was clawed at by me. Like hell I was going to let this Terrorizer eat John, I protected him with my arms, which really didn't do much.

"Fucking, get away, I'll kill you, you bastard." I hissed.

Sadly Adams didn't give up, he still continued to harass us. John began to mumble something in his sleep and I felt helpless. Then out of nowhere a claw stabbed Adams from behind. I glared at the newcomer until I realized who it was.

"Maria?"

We both watched as Adams collapsed and died, turning into sand in the process.

"Good to see you again Al, you fucking hoe?! You left hell for-for this? For him!?" She pointed at John who was sound asleep again. I played with his hair again.

"Oh and don't get me started on how Aaron and I kept distracting Thomas. Thomas, you know your rival? even fucking now he hates you and can't wait to kill you, he goes on and on about how he will be glad to take out your organs and play with your skull? Do you wanna know how worried I was? You bitch I searched everywhere! France, Italy, Germany, Russia. Do you know how big fucking Russia is?"

"You done?" I asked, not daring to look her in the eyes.

With a long dramatic sign she nodded and sat down.

"Why him?" she looked at John with bitter distaste. "There are many beautiful demons where we live, they would make you happy and-"

"No."

"Wh-what?! No?" Her eyes resembled the size of plates. Maria couldn't believe I have decided to give my life to this human, but I wasn't changing my mind.

"Demons are rough, heartbroken, lost, tortured souls. We are everything the world hates, but John, he's human so that means he knows what it feels like to be happy. I've never felt this sort of happiness before. John is soft and pure, I can't put it into words but I love him. Nobody else can make me happy, but him."

Maria seemed a bit taken back.

"Wow, I never knew he ment that much to you. . ." She rubbed the back of her neck. "But I came to warn you about-"

"About the seven day limit and about Thomad, yeah I know, Aaron already told me." I grumbled. Aaron was the last thing I wanted on my mind right now.

"Oh." Maria didn't say anything else. For a moment I thought she was crying, she looked up with a tear stained face, "I'm just glad you're all right asshole."
"Thanks Ri."

I didn't bother cussing at her since I found out humans don't cuss out that often.

She seemed sad for some reason, "You've been gone for only 3 days and already you lost your spark."

At that I didn't look up, and continued to play with the still sleeping John's hair.
