Steve led Bucky back into the subway and they jumped on the first train.
"It's not too far now." Steve said once they'd emerged, patting Bucky's back with a smile.
They stopped in front of an old style diner, complete with cheesy neon sign.
"Here we are!" Steve said excitedly.
"An old diner?" Bucky asked skeptically.
"Best burgers and milkshakes in the city. When I was first thawed, they brought me here first. Tastes just like the diner down the street we used to eat at all the time in the old days." Steve explained.
Bucky smiled.
"What are we waiting for then?" He asked, opening the door and walking in.
They sat in a vinyl booth across from each other. The waitress came over, far too perky like many waitresses were.
"Plug your ears. I'm ordering for you." Steve told Bucky with a mischievous grin.
Bucky did as he was told, more than a little frightened at what Steve was concocting. Moments later, the waitress came back with a tray. She put one drink in front of each man and left.
"Try it." Steve said.
Bucky picked up the cup and sucked on the straw. What filled his mouth was most likely the most delicious thing he'd ever tried.
"Chocolate milkshake. It was your favorite." Steve said, tearing up a bit at the old memories that Bucky still couldn't quite recall.
"It was? I love it!" Bucky said, amazed at how he'd forgotten something that tasted like this did. He guessed he just didn't have much of a reason to recall something as unimportant as what he liked to eat and drink.
Steve smiled and they drank their shakes. The waitress came over yet again, and Steve motioned for Bucky to plug his ears again. Bucky did so, but watched Steve closely, trying to read his lips. He was growing hungrier by the minute. Once the waitress walked away, Bucky uncovered his ears again.
"You look so scared!" Steve said, laughing. It wasn't like Steve was trying to trick him.
"Well, I'm more than a little nervous about letting you order, Captain." Bucky said, laughing.
While they waited for their dinners, they played I Spy. Bucky crushed Steve, guessing within seconds. It was probably because of all those years spent as a spy. After a while Steve accepted defeat and they just sat in silence, watching the people come and go around them.
The waitress then came again, with heaping plates. The one she put in front of Bucky was filled with golden fries and an enormous burger, spewing juice. It was heaped with condiments and absolutely mouth watering.
"Dig in." Steve said, already shoving a mouthful of burger in.
Bucky took a bite and let out a moan of content. It was absolutely delicious.
"Good?" Steve said with a full mouth.
"Amazing." Bucky grunted.
They finished and paid for their meal, heading back out into the city.
"I'm stuffed." Bucky said, letting out a sigh.
"Me too. Want to take a little walk around Central Park?" Steve asked. He always felt guilty after eating something unhealthy and had to either walk or run it off.
"Let's go." Bucky said.
