Bucky sat there, tears pouring down his face as Steve stomped into his room and slammed the door. He'd told Bucky to leave, just like that. It was sudden and unexpected. Bucky knew that both of them had some apologizing to do, but the fact that Steve had kicked him out scared him. Where was he going to go now? Everyone else only tolerated him. Nobody actually liked him except for Steve.

He had nowhere to turn. He was really and truly alone. He could go back to HYDRA, but he'd be heavily punished and he couldn't live like that again. He could call Tony and see if there was an extra room available for him somewhere else, but he suspected that this late at night, Tony would be drunk and not of use to him. Bruce seemed friendly, Bucky might be able to get advice from him.

However, he knew deep down that no one could replace what he was loosing. Steve had been with him through everything, and now the whole world was being crumbled down upon Bucky. He felt absolutely worthless and he knew he'd seriously messed up this time, even if it hadn't truly been him talking.

After assessing his options, Bucky decided that the least he could do was pack his belongings. He walked towards his room, pausing by Steve's door to listen. Steve was still crying, almost in hysterics. This only made Bucky feel worse. He walked into his room and grabbed all the bags he owned. With ters in is eyes, he sorted all his clothing on the bed. As Bucky began shoving his clothes angrily into bags, he collapsed on the bed in a fit of tears. This was the very spot in which he'd ruined his whole life. This was where he had broken Steve's heart. He cried and wailed on the bed, pulling his knees in and rocking back and forth until he had no more tears to cry. Eventually, Bucky fell into a troubled sleep.

After a while, Steve began to see past his own grief and think about how Bucky was feeling. How could Steve have been so stupid? He sent Bucky away, and now he wasn't even sure where he was or where he was going to go. Had Bucky even taken his things with him? Steve knew deep down it wasn't Bucky who had said those awful things. But they definitely came out of Bucky's body. Steve wasn't entirely sure he forgave Bucky. But he knew he had to at least try to make things right. He couldn't just let the man he'd lost once leave again.

Steve walked down the hall and knocked softly and gently on the door. There was no response.

"Bucky? We need to talk." Steve said, hoping Bucky hadn't left.

When there was still no answer, Steve opened the door, preparing for the worst thing he could imagine: an empty room. He was relieved to find Bucky laying on the bed in the midst of piles of all his clothes. Steve stepped closer, trying not to wake him and sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Oh Buck. I'm so sorry. I'm so very sorry." Steve said sadly, stroking Bucky's face absentmindedly as the man slept.

Steve lay down next to Bucky as tears of relief began to flow. He wa so glad Bucky was still here. He didn't know what he'd do without him. He pulled Bucky's body close to him and nuzzled his chin into the space between Bucky's neck and shoulder. As he cried, Bucky began to wake.

"Steve?" Bucky said timidly, not wanting to upset Steve again.

"Oh Bucky, I'm so sorry. Please don't leave, I'm begging you, please." Steve said, pulling away from Bucky who flipped over to face him.

"Steve, I want yo to know that that wasn't me. It was... him." Bucky said, saying the last part like it was some detestable thing that no one should ever speak.

" I know Bucky, I know." Steve said, crying harder.

Bucky was crying now too.

"C'mere you." Bucky said, holding his arms out and smiling through the tears.

Steve nodded and wiggled closer into Bucky's arms, feeling warm and safe.

Bucky kissed the top of Steve's head as they hugged, making Steve look up at him.

"So, Bucky?" Steve asked timidly.

"Yeah Steve?"

"Do you like me or not?" Steve asked, feeling like a little kid again.

Bucky tilted Steve's head up towards him and kissed him on the lips slowly and passionately, not pulling away until both thought they were about to suffocate. Steve tasted like salty tears and peppermints. Bucky leaned in towards his ear.

"Does that answer it?" Bucky whispered, his lips brushing Steve's ear.

"I think it does." Steve said back with a smile.
