Bucky and Steve were quickly joined by the rest of the Avengers, each with a heaping plate of cake and a smile on their faces. Everyone dived into their cake, none of them talking. The entire cake was gone in a matter of minutes. It once said "Welcome home Bucky" on the top in fancy cursive writing. It was the best cake Bucky had eaten in his whole life. Much better than the dry, flavorless ration cakes they made during the war.
"Man, this is really good." Bucky said, looking around.
"Eh, it's not that great. I've had way better." Bruce said.
"The cake now is incredible. If you think this is good, there's somewhere I have to take you!" Steve replied, eyes twinkling.
Bucky smiled and went back to his cake. He wondered if Steve meant it as a date. He wasn't quite sure how he felt about Steve. He knew he considered him a friend, but he didn't know if he felt something more. It made him upset. Bucky wasn't even sure what he liked. He'd always thought he just liked girls, but now everything was different. He didn't want to let Steve down, not after all these years and the way Steve poured out his heart to him. He was glad Steve hadn't said anything more about it, because Bucky had no idea what to say or how to react. He didn't want to lie, but he also didn't want to hurt his best and first friend.
After a while, once the party died down, Bucky decided he wanted to go back to his and Steve's floor.
"Hey Steve, I'm gonna head upstairs okay?" Bucky asked quietly.
"Are you okay?" Steve replied concernedly.
"Yeah, just a little tired is all." Bucky said with a small smile and turned to the elevator.
"Hang on, I'm coming too. Let me just say goodbye to everyone." Steve called back at him.
Bucky stopped and smiled. He had Steve pretty much at his command. Not that he would use him to do wrong, although that's what the voices in his head told him to do. It was endearing more than anything.
After Steve had said all his farewells, he joined Bucky at the elevator. They boarded the elevator and went up. Once they reached their floor, Steve picked up their bags and headed in, dropping them on the couch. The apartment was dark and dusty from all the time there had been no one home.
"Welcome back Buck." Steve said, flicking on all the lights.
Once Steve had put away all his belongings, he headed back out to the living room and flopped on the couch. Bucky came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist and another on his head moments later.
"Hey Buck, come here." Steve called, still laying there with his eyes closed.
Bucky walked into the living room and after making sure he was decent, sat down on the chair opposite to Steve.
"What's up Steve?" Bucky said, hoping that Steve wasn't going to bring up the incident in the hospital.
"We should do something tomorrow, ya know? You still don't have any clothes, maybe we could go shopping and then get something to eat. I still have a ton to show you in the city! Why don't we go out tomorrow?" Steve asked, becoming excited at the idea of spending a day navigating the enormous city with Bucky at his side.
"Sure Steve. Just tell me when to be ready and we'll go." Bucky replied with a relieved smile.
The idea of shopping and going out and having a good time after so long was great to Bucky. As long as it didn't turn into a date, he was fine with the idea.
"Seven o'clock tomorrow morning alright with you?" Steve asked with a grin.
"Seven o'clock." Bucky said with a grin, rising from his seat.
