Chapter 4

I woke up the next morning to see Mom and Dad leaning over me.
"Happy birthday Rey!" They shouted in unison nearly giving me a heart attack.
"Ok! Ok!" I said sitting up. "I'm too old for this kind of stuff."
"Well your favorite breakfast, blackberry pancakes is downstairs waiting for you."
"Well maybe not too old for that," I said sprinting downstairs. Of course I ate those pancakes right up.
"My English partner is coming over to work on our project so no embarrassing birthday surprises," i told mom before I headed out the door.
  "No promises," mom said winking.

Class went by quickly and it was time for lunch. I sat with Poe, Finn, and Rose again. It was quiet until I looked up and noticed Rose was silently crying.
"Excuse me for a minute," she said quietly, then walked out of the cafeteria.
"Is she ok?" I asked.
"Her older sister Paige died in a car wreck about a month ago," Finn said sympathetically ," she sometimes has breakdowns and PTSD from it sometimes."
"They were really close," Poe mumbled. "Her crescent moon necklace she wears everyday was the last thing her sister gave her before she died."
I couldn't bring myself to words.
"Maybe I should go be with her," I said starting to get up.
"Don't, she says it feels uncomfortable to be around us when she's like this."
I sat back down picking at my food. I got out my art supplies and started drawing BB-8 the dog and wrote at the top. 'Missing dog found. Is he yours? Call 555-298-4736'

Kylos POV
"So I have disastrous plans for Prom," Snoke said in a sinister tone.
"I was thinking we could put epicacuana in the punch," Hux chuckled.
"Those are preschool pranks," Phasma scoffed rolling her eyes, "I was thinking we could specifically target Finn."
"Enough with your 11th grade revenge Phasma," Snoke huffed," we need something bigger."
  I wasn't listening, I was too busy looking at Rey. Beautiful Rey. She want eating her lunch, she was doodling some dog, but it was really good. I wonder how long she's been doing art.
"Kylo are you listening?" Snokes voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Yes Snoke," I lied.
"What was that girl doing at your house last night?"
"How did you know she was at my-"
"She's bad news," Snoke hummed. "But she could join us."
"Well-"
"Have that girl join us, persuade her to our side instead of hanging out with those rebel scum," Snoke said motioning towards Finns table.
"Yes Snoke," I replied continuing my stare session with Rey.

Rey's POV
After school, Kylo drove to my house and parked his super expensive eye candy car in my driveway.
  BB-8 ran up to us barking.
"Is this your dog?" He asked rubbing his head.
"No, but I'm trying to find his owner," I said leading him inside.
"I know, I saw you drawing posters at lunch."
"You were watching me at lunch?" I said stunned.
"Um no... I mean kind of ... well yes," he stumbled nervously," let's just get upstairs."
We walked in and greeted my mom then got to work on our project upstairs.
"We still haven't picked a scene from Romeo and Juliet," I said plopping down on my bed.
"Excuse my room," I blushed ," I'm still unpacking and getting things organized."
"Oh I understand." He slightly smiled.
After we picked a scene and worked more on our acting, Kylo packed up to leave.
"See you tomorrow," he said walking out of my room.
"See ya," I waved as BB-8 jumped up and down. I could tell he wanted to go on a walk. I grabbed his leash and we walked outside. It cold for early January , but I slipped on a jacket and took BB-8 outside. We walked around as he hopped around excitingly.
"Woah calm down BB-8!" I said as he yanked on the leash and it almost took me down. He yanked again and it made me let go of his leash. He ran full speed straight ahead. I fell trying to run after him.
"Hey there pal! I missed you!" A familiar voice said.
I saw BB-8 licking and jumping on Poe. BB-8 was Poes dog. I walked over to him.
"Hey Poe, what are you doing here," I asked.
"I live in this neighborhood," he said.
"You found my dog! I've been looking for him everywhere!"
"Yeah, I made found posters today, and I was going to hang them up tomorrow," I said handing the leash over to Poe. I tried not to cry as I patted BB-8. I could tell Poe knew I had some good times with his dog.
"You can come over and visit him anytime you want," Poe said.
"Thanks, i appreciate it," I said trying to smile.
"Well id better get home," I said.
"Ok, thanks again for taking care of BB-8," Poe shouted after me.
I walked back to my house alone, tears streaming down my face, but I wiped off my face and took deep breaths before I walked inside. Mom and dad had balloons around the dining room table and a cake on the table that said 'Happy 18th Birthday Rey!'
"Happy birthday sweetheart! You're a legal adult now!" Mom squealed. As we ate cake I thought about that question. I promised my parents that on my 18th birthday that I would want them to tell me who my real parents were and why they left me. As I picked up my fork I trembled knowing that the truth was coming. My best theory about my parents i had thought up and believed since age 13 was that my parents were too poor to keep me and that they had no choice but to give me up and that they would come back for me one day and explain everything and how much they missed me. I had that dream at least once a week.
Now the time had come to know the truth. As soon as we finished eating cake in pure silence. Mom and dad exchanged glances.
"I'm ready to know," I announced trying not to sound nervous. "Who are my parents?"
"Their names were Aslan and Kira. They were drug addicts and alcoholics. They abandoned you on the side of the street when you were 5 years old. Someone found you and put and M.I.A out for your parents. When they found them, they were found in a bar, dead from an overdose," mom explained tearfully. Dad had tears running down his face. I was in shock, tears streamed down my face.
"Honey?" Mom said putting her hand on my shoulder. I jerked away, for some reason I was angry. Not being able to control myself, I ran out the back door and into the endless woods.
