______I felt bad for leaving Aaron yesterday. I know he was sad, even if his text seemed happy.
So I decided to surprise him with tickets to his favorite basketball team.
I knock on his door and he answers with a big smile on his face.
"I have a surprise for you!" He grins.
What? He has a surprise for me? I guess we are both giving surprises.
"So do I!" I smile.
"You go first." He offers as we sit down on the couch.
"Okay." I smile and reach into my bag.
I pull out he tickets and hand them to him.
"Roni what? This is amazing!" He smiles, hugging me.
"The game is tonight!" I grin.
His smile fades a little. "Tonight?" He gulps.
I nod my head. "Is that okay?"
"Well, it's just that I planned for us to go somewhere for my surprise tonight, but it's okay we can reschedule."
"No! We can go to your secret place, I'm sure there is another game on some other time!" I say sincerely.
"No Roni you paid for those tickets, we are going to the game!" He laughs.
"But you must have put so much effort into this surprise if you are looking forward to it so much!" I laugh back.
I'm glad that we are both laughing, meaning it is not a serious fight.
"No, I can redo the surprise for tomorrow night okay? I want it to be perfect." He smiles.
"Okay fine." I give in.
He claps his hands and hugs me. I hug him back this time.
"So, what do you want to do until then?" I ask with a smile.
"We could go to the grove?"
"Perfect."
___
"Aaron, the game starts in ten minutes." I look at my phone.
"Oh. We better run then." He laughs.
We both start running in the direction of the game.
The grove isn't far from his house so we walked here. But now we have the problem of making it to the game on time.
"Come on!" He laughs, grabbing my hand and pulling me faster.
"I intertwine our fingers as we run. I know he didn't mean it like that, but it makes me happy that he grabbed my hand.
Maybe it's a sign.
Breathless, we make it to the game. We get to our seats just as the teams jog onto the court.
I only half watch the game. I watch Aaron for some of it. Smiling, laughing, cheering, rooting, I know he loves it.
Him being happy makes me happy.
That's what happiness is, seeing someone else filled with joy - it fills you with the same emotion you cannot deny.
"Aaron!" I call out over the cheers of people.
He looks over at me, smiling from ear to ear.
"Aaron I li-" my sentence is cut off as the power suddenly goes out.
Screams echo the gym as we wonder what is happening.
"Aaron?" I question, feeling beside me.
"I'm here." He wraps his arms around me in a protective manor, as we try and find out way to the door.
"How come no one is saying anything about this?" He questions as we cautiously walk to the stairs.
That's a good point.
No professionals or organizers have said anything at all, the power went about three minutes ago and we all started screaming and talking about what to do, I'm sure they have a megaphone they could use.
I feel someone push past me, and Aaron looses his grip on my shoulders.
I grab his hand, panic rising in me.
What is happening?
Aaron grasps my hand tighter and we make it to the stairs. We quickly rush down them and out into the open air, moonlight filling us up with content.
"What was that?" I sigh a breath of relief.
Aaron shrugs.
"What were you saying in there? Before the power went off."
"Oh, it doesn't matter anymore."
Uh I have to go to schooollllllll
