-------------beginning o dream-----------
I sat in the backyard on the swing that I had made my brothers put in. "What are you doing out here doll?" My boyfriend of three years asked. "Just thinking...And swinging," I replied with a giggle. He sat down beside me and lit a cigarette.
    "What ya thinking about babygirl?"
"Just the future." I replied leaning my head over on him inhaling the familiar scent that always seemed to follow him. It was an odd combination of old spice, cigarettes and booze. Some people would call it a bad smell and the smell of a drunk and a hood, but to me it was good. It was the smell of Dallas.
    "What kinda future?" he asked.
"Our future. Where we all will be in...ohh, ten years."
"Where do you see us in ten years?"
"Here. With you. And the gang." I told him. We both were quit for a while watching the night sky.
"What would you do if I died tomorrow?" Dal asked me.
"I would go date Steve." I joked.
He chuckled and bit his lip before he spoke again. "I mean for real. If I was to die tomorrow what would you do?"
"I would scream, cry, and probably die. I would be a handful. Darry and Soda would be ready to pull their hair out. Pony would just read trying to cope with your death himself, and I would be dying on the inside even if i'm not dead on the outside yet." I looked up at him. "Don't ever leave me. I couldn't handle it, my brothers wouldn't be able to handle it, the guys couldn't handle no one could handle it." I said tears welling up in my eyes at the thought of even losing him.
"Don't worry doll I'm not going to leave you for a very very very long time." I looked up at him as he pulled me closer. "Trust me. We will be together till death do us part." I looked at him a small smile spread across his lips. "Look, I may not be the best at words or feelings, but I know what I feel and what I want. And what I want is you to be my wife. So will you marry me?" Dal asked. I nodded very quickly speechless. He pulled a blue velvet box out of his pocket and opened it to show a ring.
After a minute, I finally found the words I was looking for. "Yes Dal I'll be your wife!!" He took the ring out of the box and slid it on my ring finger. It wasn't the most common of engagement rings. It didn't have a diamond but I didn't want one. It was a simple skull and crossbones which suited me fine.
We heard a series of awww's come from the background. It was the gang, who had stepped out the back door to "get some fresh air", more like to spy on us.
"Oh shut your traps!" I yelled at them throwing one of the pillows that I wanted on the swing at them. Dal chuckled and pulled me in for a kiss.
-----------end o dream--------------------
"Wake up Samantha! Darry said if you don't get out of bed right now I can dump a cup of ice cold water on you!" My little brother Pony yelled.
"Brat! Get outta my room and if you even bring a cup of water in here imma smack ya!" I yelled turning back over and covering my head with my blanket. Pony ran out whining about be calling him a brat and in walked Soda. He took a more gentle approach to getting me outta bed.
"Sam... sweetie you need to get outta bed." Soda told me sweetly walking over to me.
"No Soda. I'm not doing it not today," I groaned.
"Sam your depression is getting worse. You really need to get out of bed. Please. For me." Soda whined.
"Nope. I'm not going to do it. Not yet."
    "Well why not?"
"Because. Ya know what.. If I got out of bed and got dressed and went to the living room, will it make you happy?" I asked him.
Soda was so happy I thought that he was going to burst. "Oh, you bet. I'll have the chocolate cake ready!!" He yelled running out of the room. I laughed at him a little before I dragged my butt outta bed and got dressed.
I walked into the living room where the whole gang had gathered. "It's alive!" Two-bit yelled. I grabbed a pillow behind him and knocked him upside the head. "Do you want some food?" Darry asked me.
"No. I got outta bed lets take it slow on the food thing." I told him sitting down on the couch beside pony. I looked at his book. He frowned at me and got up. I sighed and leaned back onto the couch. We all sat around for a while watching tv. After a while the guys went to the lot to go play football. They invited me but I told them to go ahead. When they left I turned the tv off and started listening to the radio. I just laid on the couch with my eyes closed letting the lyrics of the songs wash over me till the guys came back. When they got back the music got turned off and the tv got turned on. I felt a weight on my chest and another one on my stomach.
"Get off me butt heads I can't breathe!" I yelled at them. Two-bit was on my stomach and Dal on my chest. They just laughed. I had on my necklace with the sharp point on it...so I grabbed it and stabbed them both. They both jumped and yelped. They still didn't get off of me. I groaned and stabbed Two-bit, really digging the sharp point into him. He yelped and got up. Then I stabbed Dallas- hard. Probably hard enough to draw blood. "Hey that hurt. I thought your brothers took all of your sharp objects." he retorted.
"All but this one. Now get up before the sharp point stabs lower," I warned harshly. He jumped up. We all laughed at him. "Sam, you're a little on the mean side." Dal griped.
"A little?" Two-bit retorted. I giggled at them.
"Ok well, I'm getting outta here." I said walking out the door.
"Where you going?" Darry yelled after me.
"Somewhere!" I yelled back. I walked to the park and sat around swinging and thinking, probably looking like a loon when Johnny came looking for me. "Hey Sam, what's up?" Johnny asked.
    "Nothing much just thinking."
    "What about?"
"Nothing important. Is the gang looking for me?"
"Yea. They don't want you out and about after dark and you know that." Johnny told me.
"I know, let's get going then," I told him jumping off the swing I was on. We started walking back to the house when we heard a car pull up behind us. I looked over at Johnny. "Stay cool," he mouthed when we heard a door slam. A couple of Socs got out.
"Look what we got here Bob!" The drunken Soc-Randy-slurred. "Looks like greaser trash," Bob managed to say. They kept following us.
"Hey grease." Bob said as him and Randy walked on both sides of me, separating me from Johnny. I didn't say a word to them. "I'm talking." Bob stuttered. I rolled my eyes.
"Roll your eyes like that and you may find a brain back there." Randy hissed. We were getting close enough to the house for us to make a run for it but not just yet. I looked at Johnny and he wanted to run. I nodded my head telling him he could. He shook his head not wanting me to be alone with these two. Bob and Randy must have been talking and I wasn't paying attention, 'cause one of them slammed me against the wall. "Johnny run!" I yelled.
He took off at a dead run while the two paid attention to me. They were hitting me and doing other things as well. I screamed for Dallas, my brothers, and the whole gang, but Dal was the first person I yelled for. When I was about to blackout I heard the sound of two people running towards us.
My vision was blurry but I wasn't going to let myself blackout. It looked like Dal and Steve.
The Socs let go of me and I fell to the ground. When they realized who Dal and Steve were, they took off running as hard as they could back to their car. Steve helped me up.
"You okay kid?" Dal asked. I shook my head in reply. "...no, but I'm fine I can walk it off." He nodded and we all started walking back to my house. "How did you know that I was in trouble?" I asked, wondering why it was Steve and Dal and not Darry and Soda who had come and saved me. "I heard you yell my name." Steve answered.
"So you guys didn't see Johnny?" I questioned.
    "No." Dal replied.
"Well he went running back to my house," I told him. Dal nodded. I grunted as I felt a sharp pain run up my leg and I think we all heard a bone crack. I fell and Dal picked me up. He was now carrying me bridal style back to the house.
When we got to the house, Steve opened the door for us. Johnny was sitting on the couch trying to tell the story and where I was at, but the Socs scared him something fierce.
"Chill out Johnnycake." I said making them look up. Dal sat me down on the couch. "You hurt bad?" Johnny asked.
"Well, I wasn't but i think i broke my leg. "Which one?" Darry asked instantly. "Right," I replied as Darry jumped over to look at my leg. He squeezed the leg. "Does this hurt?" he asked. "Of course it does." I retorted as I yelped in pain. "We better get to the hospital..." I nodded and stood up trying to walk out the door to the truck. Soda walked beside me and dal was behind me.
    "You need help?" Soda asked.
"I got it." I said biting my lip, trying to show no pain. I hobbled out to the truck.
Darry, Soda, and I were all in the cab while anyone else who had decided to come along was in the back of the truck. When we got to the hospital, Darry and Soda helped me in while the guys parked the truck. They all waited while I got fixed up.
