Summary: After you shut him down when talking about trying for a baby six months prior, Luke hasn’t bothered you about the subject anymore. But now, after watching him play around with his baby niece, you might’ve changed your mind…

“Aren’t you just too cute?” Luke asks his niece as she stands on his thighs, her hands on his shoulders to steady herself. “Hey, hey,” he coos, kissing her nose afterward. You can’t deny that the feeling in your stomach isn’t just adoration over the interaction, but also jealousy. You’ve always thought about having a little baby of your own, and when you and Luke got married a year ago today, you thought that he’d agree as quickly as possible. He spent so much time with his niece, braiding her hair back and feeding her and taking her to the park, you thought that it meant that he wanted a little tyke of his own.

And it did.

But when you brought it up one night and he started talking about all the logistics of it: breastfeeding, the sleepless nights, the constant purchasing of clothes and food and stuffed animals, etc, etc,…

You realized that maybe this wasn’t what you wanted.

But now, seeing Luke pressing feathery kisses into his niece’s hair, you think you’ve changed your mind. You even took a pregnancy class unbeknownst to Luke, which helped you better understand everything that goes on. It doesn’t sound totally enjoyable, not to you at least, but you know that the utter joy that’s sparkling in Luke’s eyes would be multiplied whenever the little baby he’s cradling is his own.

“Oh,” he pouts as she yawns. “Do I have a sleepy little girl on my hands?” He smiles and cradles her into his chest and you hear him lowly humming to her as he stands. You fiddle with the diamond ring rested on your fourth finger of your left hand and find yourself warming at the thought and memories of your wedding day. “All right,” you hear Luke say, breaking you from your train of thought. “Let’s get you to bed, sweetie.”

He walks her up the stairs to the guest bedroom which contains her fold-up crib for nights when his brother needs you two to take care of the sweet little girl. You don’t mind, though, it gives you a feel for how you and Luke will act in the future. And it’s hard not to replace the baby with brown hair and dark green eyes with one that is blonde and blue, little dimples in her cheeks and a cute button nose. Curling up with the blankets, you watch the hallway, waiting for Luke to walk out.

When he finally does, a brighter smile tugs up your lips as you pull your lower in between the bite of your teeth. “Babe?” he asks, raising an eyebrow, “You all right?” You giggle and nod your head, holding out your arms like his niece was doing earlier. He smiles and instead of laying down next to you and cuddling up to you like you were asking, he picks you up in his arms bridal style and begins walking you toward your bedroom.
