"Hey..." John snapped. I jumped at little. Startled by his voice, " Sorry....didn't mean to startle you. You just seem like your mind is somewhere else." He forced a smile at me. I tucked my hair behind my ear as I looked down at my SAT prep book.
"Lets turn to page 43....and read the passage." My voice cracked. How he could read me was so strange. He knew my mind wasn't in to studying. I was too focused on us....and the party and our kiss....and the shoe. He has the shoe with him...and I have mine. His lips were taunting me as they quietly read along. How I wanted his lips on mine. His lips stopped moving and smiled. I looked up into his eyes. He was already looking at me. Our fingers tips touching. I slid my hand away," After you read the passage on page 43...answer the questions on page 44...and we'll compare our answers when we both finish."
"Um okay." He slid his hand away and gripped his book. I put all my brain into the booklet...I zoomed through the questions, but John was faster...he finished before me. We ended up having the same answers....except for the last question. He had A. I had C. We compared...and talked the the differences in the answers...playfully arguing. We both reached for the answer sheet..our hands touched...I didn't slide away right away, but I turned towards him and smiled...he smiled, too....then shook his head.
"Can I ask you something?" He started searching through his backpack and he suddenly pulled out....my shoe. I tensed up and slid my hand away. I gulped," There was a party Saturday....and I danced with the most beautiful girl I've ever laid eyes on." He sighed happily.
"Sounds nice." I quickly returned to my book, but he kept talking about the girl....about me. I wasn't ready to admit it was me...not yet....I need more time.
"She took off at midnight, I managed to steal a kiss as she escaped. She gave me one back...." He paused as he blushed hard. My heart began beating fast. I slowly slid my hand into my backpack...I didn't have time. It was now or never. He would just have to accept the fact I'm the girl...I felt around for my other shoe, but.....I couldn't feel it. I started to panic a little. That shoe was my only hope of being with John.
"John..." I sighed. I guess I had no other choice than to just say it. I was the girl. The girl you danced with. The girl you kissed.
"Yeah?" he asked...I opened my mouth to say it, but I shut my mouth.
"Um...let's turn to page 54?" I sighed. He raised one eyebrow.
"That's not what you wanted to say to me!" He snapped.
"What makes you think that?" I asked.
"Because..." He paused," Just forget it." He scoffed as he turned to page 54. Could things get any worse....that's when Amanda rushed up to our table. My other shoe in her hand. She smirked at me before turning her eyes to John. She held up the shoe. I saw his eyes widen, "You?" he gasped at her.
"Yeah, babe. Its me....the girl you danced with. I would have told you sooner, but.." Amanda gasped.
"There's no way! I saw you at the party. Wearing a different dress....beside. The girl I danced with had blonde hair." He turned away from Amanda. She hissed.
"John....i promise you it was me." She smiled. He rolled his eyes at her.
"Why are you still here?" He scoffed at her," Bye!" She growled and threw the shoe at us as she stormed off. He picked up the other shoe....and shoved it into his bag with the other one.
"John...I have to tell you something" I sighed.
"God. I'm so sick of these stupid girls coming up to me...saying they're the girl! There's no girl at this school who is the girl I danced with! I swear...I'm sick of this. The next girl to come at me with that bull...I swear I will go off on her!" He growled. I shut my mouth. He looked up at me," I'm sorry....so what did you have to tell me?" He asked with a smile.
"Just that the passage on page 54 is a little tricky...you should read it carefully before answering the questions...." I looked down at my book. I tried to focus on the passage, but I couldn't. I shut my book and gathered my stuff. John sat up in shock.
"Wait...Tea where are you going?" He asked.
"I have to go." I lied as I rushed out the library and to my car....I dropped a bunch of my papers on the way...John, who was following me, came to my rescue. He quickly helped m pick up my stuff. I grabbed my stuff from him," Thanks." I sighed as I rushed over to my car. I threw that stuff in the backseat and got in. I pulled out of the parking spot and looked at John...who was waving at me. He looked so suspicious of me. I ignored my feelings and drove off.
RULE# 20: Ignoring you're feelings is bad for the heart and the mind.
