I felt disgusting the whole ride home. I couldn't believe what I had done...my innocence that I just spit swore I still had this morning...was gone by this evening. The ride was silent. Neither of us spoke. He must have felt the same as me...sick, hurt, and dirty. He pulled up in my driveway.
"Do you wanna...hang tomorrow?" I stuttered. I didn't look at him when I spoke. We both faced straight ahead.
"I can't. I have stuff to do..." He sighed. I waited to see if he was going to open my door like he always does for me, but he didn't do it this time. I kinda just slide out the car. No goodbyes were exchanged. The second I stepped out he sped away. I felt my heart crack...what had I done wrong? I started to walk to my front door...tears now pouring my from my eyes...only to become locked with the eyes of someone I completely forgot about.
"Anna...." my voice broke. The express on her face shifted from extreme rage to sympathy.
"I came here to scream at you for being such a horrible friend and how I never wanted to see you again." She paused.
"I don't blame you. I've been terrible to you." I added.
"You have...you've acted like a completely different person. I don't even know who you are anymore!"
"I'm scum, Anna. I'm so sorry." I started to sob.
"...you look like you could use a friend." She opened her arms wide for me. I ran into her arms and sobbed...I sobbed until I couldn't produce another tear. I cried for almost 20 minutes straight...No breaks...No words...Just gimperish and the sound of tears. Anna leaned me away and wiped my tears. My eyes were red and so was my face, "Now...what's wrong?"
"I made a huge mistake..."
I told her everything about how I blew off work to hang out with him and I missed hanging out with her, because I thought I was making love with John when in reality...there was no love. I was a fool...the foolish girl I never wanted to be. I became so wrapped up in having a boyfriend...and believeing in being happily ever after with him....I'm such a fool. After I was offically done crying, Anna snuck me back into my house and into my room without anyone noticing. She laid in my bed with me until I feel asleep. I realized then...I blew of the only true friend I had for a guy...a guy who only wanted one thing from me...I would never make this mistake again. It's my new rule...
RULE #107: Don't EVER put a stupid, football playing jerk before your job, friends, family, or well being...EVER!
I woke up around 11...Anna was no longer laying next to me, but I knew she was still here. Her glasses and jacket were laying on top of my dresser. I heard voices downstairs. I trudged down the steps to find Anna sitting at the kitchen table...chatting with Marty. I kinda hid so they wouldn't see me.
"So...how was your birthday?" Marty asked her. She smiled, then winced.
"It was actually pretty nice, despite a few minor things. I'm not really BIG on birthdays." She added with a small laugh.
"Why not?" Marty asked.
"It was just my 18th. Nothing really special." She tucked her hair behind her ear and smile. I felt weird for watching them like this, but I could tell there was some sort of attraction between them...I couldn't ignore it!
"Morning, guys..." I came out of hiding and walked over to them.
"Morning, T." They both said at the same time.
"Feeling better?" Anna asked me. She gave me a look to make sure I knew what she meant. I just nodded with a weak smile.
"I guess you could say that- but enough about me...what's going on here?" I grab a seat and stare at them both. They look at each other confusedly, then Anna turned to me.
"Marty was just asking me about my birthday." Anna smiled.
"Oh yeah...you turned 18, which means it's legal for you to date older people." I tried to be sneaky with my technique, but they didn't seem to catch on to my motive.
"Um...I guess you could say that..." Anna took a sip from her coffee mug. I just nodded at them. Were they really this oblivious? Well there was no use in trying to force a relationship on these two love dummies. I stood up.
"Anna...Let's go." I demand. She looks up at me.
"Where?"
"I have something to take care of today...and I need your help." I sighed. She raised one eyebrow.
"Just come on." I grabbed her hand and pulled her up the steps and into my room. I shut and locked the door behind us.
"Now what?" She asked as she grabbed her jacket and glasses.
"I need you to come with me to John's house...I need to talk to him, and I'm too scared to do it on my own." I snatched my car keys on my desk.
