Joe was nervous, to say the least. Even the thought of asking Hailey to move in with him terrified him. More importantly, he was scared of rejection.
However, there he stood, in front of her door, ready to ask her the question. One knock on the door was all it took for Hailey to swing it open and kiss her boyfriend.
"What took you so long?" She asked, pulling him inside. "You told me you were on your way thirty minutes ago, but you live 8 minutes away."
"I know, I know," Joe smiled, kissing her cheek. "I hit some traffic."
"Sure you did," she said, walking to her bedroom. Joe followed her, extremely nervous. "How was your day?"
"I-it was good," Joe said, nodding his head. "Spent most of it with Dacre, but he had to unpack his shit, and I didn't feel like helping him with that."
Hailey laughed, "what a kind guy."
"Of course," Joe smiled, wrapping his arms around her waist. "How was your's?"
"Katie came over for a while. She's talking to some guy, and she needed my advice," Hailey said. "Other than that I just sat at home and watched movies. " She turned around to face him, his hands still on her waist. "It's gonna suck when you have to go back to Atlanta to film."
"I know, babe," he said. "But you'll be in Vancouver with Eliza and Bob and Richard. You won't be alone."
"But I won't be with you," she said, a small pout on her lips. "What will I ever do without you?"
"Move in with me."
Hailey pulled back. She moved Joe's hands from her waist and shook her head. "Um, what?"
"Move in with me," Joe smiled, taking a step towards her as she took a step back. "I hate being away from you, Hails. I wanna come home to you every day and see your pretty face after having to listen to Dacre complain all day."
"Joe, I—"
"Hailey, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. This is a step in the right direction for us," he said.
"I'm sorry, Joe," Hailey said, shaking her head. "I can't do that. I'm sorry, but I just — I can't move in with you."
"W-what?" Joe asked, his heart breaking with her words.
"I just — Please don't hate me," she said, moving towards him. She placed a hand on his chest and the other on his cheek. "I'm sorry."
"Yeah, I, um, I gotta go," Joe said, backing away. "I promised Natalia that I'd meet her for drinks. Sorry."
Hailey watched Joe walk out of her room, down the hallway, and out the front door. She ran a hand through her hair and let a tear fall from her eye. "Jesus, Hailey. Why do you fuck everything up?" She said to herself, falling onto her bed.
