{Koba's POV}
Pain. Hate. Pain. Hate.
Pain.
Trapped underneath some metal, too weak to move, Koba was in pain. He didn't open his eyes, just laying where he was. What was the use anyway? He would open them up only to a world where he had nothing. Caesar made sure of that. Gritting his teeth, the bonobo felt his chest tighten. Then, he heard movement. Staying as still as possible, he listened. It was getting closer.
He flinched.
Koba felt a hand touch him. A human hand. His eyes snapped open, and he glared at the male, who stared back with wide eyes.
"T-This must've fallen from really high up!" he said "Here, let me-" Koba only watched as the human freed him, pushing the debris off of his weak body. He bared his teeth when the hairless creature tried to touch him, moving to hit the human. But his muscles screamed in protest, bones barely able to support him. The human bit his lip, saying "I can help you. Make you better, but you've got to let me touch you."
Koba tried to hiss, but it came out quiet and strained. Did he want to live? Yes. He refused to die until Caesar did, and a legacy of human enslavement was had. The scarred bonobo realized that he couldn't achieve any of that though, unless he got help. Gaze turning slowly to the human, he sighed softly in grudging defeat.
The human smiled slightly before moving toward Koba again.
《A month and a half later》
Koba was settled down on a bed. It was soft, and smelled like the human, who's name he learned was Devon. What a weird name.
Devon had somehow managed to get Koba away from the ruins of the tower, and to an old house away from the other humans. It was just him, Koba, and a cat named Biscuit that Devon took with him everywhere in the city.
The ape looked over as Devon entered the room with what looked like meat. "It's deer again," he said apologetically "I can't get too much from the stock in the city or else others will get suspicious." He held out the plate to the bonobo, who sat up and took it without response. As he ate, he watched Devon stare out of the corner of his eye. Koba would be better soon. Strong again soon. And when he did, the human would be of no use to him.
"My father felt bad for the apes," Devon said, making Koba actually turn to look at him. "He hated how everyone blamed them for the illness going around. You all had nothing to do with it. You all were just victims of the scientists." Koba turned away, continuing to way, though his muscles had tensed.
"Your face..." the human continued, making Koba tense "Were you one of the -"
"Get. Out."
Koba spoke softly, but firmly. Devon blinked, but didn't protest. He collected Biscuit, saying as he left "Not all humans are bad." Koba didn't respond, only focusing on finishing up his food. Of course a human would try to defend other humans. He grunted at the thought, throwing the plate on the floor. Looking out of the window in the room, he was still for the longest time, unable to do anything else.
He wondered what Caesar was doing. Koba growled at the thought. His enemy was probably hiding his tribe somewhere, away from humans like the coward he was. If Koba had stayed in power, he'd be ordering the apes to hunt down and capture humans instead of distancing themselves. Upon hearing movement, he glared over expecting to see Devon. Instead, he saw Biscuit the cat. She meowed, trotting over and hopping up onto the bed with him. Koba remained neutral in expression, but did reach a hand out to the cat. Biscuit meowed, sniffing at him curiously before rubbing her head against his hand. That was a first. Something actually liking him.
