{Caesar's POV}

The group was heading back toward the colony, with a small collection of humans. However, the one he really wanted was walking in the opposite direction. Will was staying with that monster. Not because he wanted to though, but because he was insurance. Caesar was to gather guns for Koba in exchange for him. Honestly, it wasn't too big of a deal because his apes fought without guns. Ot was forbidden to do so. Hopefully they wouldn't regret it though, because they'd likely go to war with a tribe that does have guns.

As Caesar led the way back home, Blue Eyes pulled up beside him on his horse. 'Was that really your human?'

The king nodded.

'What was he like?'

Caesar sighed. "Will was a good man. He still is, I'm sure. Raised me. Taught me to speak Sign. I am his son. He is my father."

Blue Eyes looked a bit confused, and Caesar smiled slightly. 'Family does not always mean blood, son.'

The remainder of the trip home was silent. When they returned, Maurice came over with a raised brow. 'What did Koba want?'

"Guns. Guns we do not have."

Maurice tilted his head, looking thoughtful as Caesar dismounted his horse, another ape taking it away. Blue Eyes stayed with him as he walked with Maurice to his private meeting room, where Rocket, a few other apes and Cornelius were waiting. They all sat down, and Caesar briefed them on what happened. Rocket grunted, looking unsure. 'Why give Koba guns? He will turn them on us!'

"Koba likely does not have the numbers to win. And if he does have many, he likely has not trained them to fight." At least not a lot. Who knew at that point. Not that long ago, he had known Koba to be dead. He watched him fall... though he didn't watch him die. Sighing, he continued "We will get through this. Apes together strong." He put his closed fists beside each other, and the others followed suit. Caesar smiled before lowering his hands.

They would be okay.

{Koba's POV}

The ride back to the camp was quiet. Koba and Devon were beside each other on their horses, with the others following behind. Will had a close eye kept on him as not to let him slip away. He was a surprisingly quiet human. Most of them went running upon seeing apes. Stupid humans. He glanced back to see Will watching him. The bonobo narrowed his eyes before looking ahead again. Feeling eyes on him again, he looked over to see Devon. The human smiled at him gently, and Koba sighed before turning away again.

Getting back to camp, he dismounted his horse and lumbered over to his favorite spot. He watched Devon guide Beck to his medicine den before walking over to him. Devon settled beside Koba, nuzzling into his shoulder. "You seem mad, and not about Caesar."

'The young human likes you.'

Devon actually laughed. Reaching down, he took hold of the bonobo's hand. Smiling up at him, he signed. 'I am loyal to you. Beck is a little young for me anyway.' Koba huffed, but felt a little better. Now he didn't have to fight that younger human to keep Devon. Looking down at the human, his green gaze was surprisingly gentle. He knew others were probably staring, but he didn't care. Everyone was aware that he obviously cared for Devon, and they needed to accept that.

Devon seemed to realize that, and he leaned up to kiss the ape. Koba growled a little possessively, leaning into the kiss a little before moving back at the sound of a meow. Pulling away, he glared slightly at Biscuit. The cat meowed again, and Devon moved to get up. "I'm going to go feed Biscuit and check on Beck. I'll be back later." With another smile, he picked up his prized cat before leaving Koba, who watched him go before turning away.
