Ring...Ring...Ring...Ring.
I heard my phone ring at around 4:30 in the morning. I am an early bird, don't get me wrong, but 4:30?! This better be worth awakening me from my beauty sleep. I picked up and I heard a muffled voice on the line. It sounded like the cell phone connection was weak, but it could have been a prank call or a joke.
"Hello?" I asked in a half asleep voice.
"Hello, my name is Clifford and I'm calling you from Ruby Manor."
"I think that you have the wrong number sir.If you haven't realized, it's 4:32 in the morning and I don't have the time for this. " I said getting annoyed.
"O no miss! You are Sarah, correct?"
"Yea... what do you want from me this early in the morning? How did you even get my number?"
"I would like to know if you would like to compete in a game show to win 1 million dollars! We received an application nominating you for the game show."
"What kind of game show are you talking about?"
"You must use your crime investigation skills Sarah."
How did he know that I majored in forensics in college? I had just gotten a job offer for a head position in our police department here in New York. I had finished college top in my class and earned special recommendations by each of my professors.
"Okay that's fair, where should I go and when?" I asked sitting up in my bed.
"O no Sarah, we will pick you up in 4 hours and bring you to the Ruby Manor. You will be staying there for an extended amount of time, so pack accordingly."
"Okay see you then I guess." I hung up the phone and turned on my lamp. I wasn't sure if this was a joke or if this was real. Hoping for the best, I packed my bags with as many clothes as I could fit. I showered, put on my makeup, got dressed, ate breakfast, and went downstairs and waited for the doorbell to ring. About a half-hour later, I heard the doorbell ring and I grabbed all 3 of my royal blue suitcases. I looked through the peek hole and saw a middle-aged man in a suit with a hat on. I assumed that he was Clifford, the one that I was on the phone with. When I opened the door, he greeted me and helped me bring my luggage to the car.
For some reason I had a bad feeling about this. It was too late now, but I wish I could go back. The whole situation gave me the creeps. I had forgotten to tell anyone that I was going due to the rush of excitement and anxiousness that I faced this morning and had no wifi to text anyone now. I wish I had just let the phone ring despite the million dollar prize.
