Now this is a cliche you can find in thousands of books, professional, with hard copies, loved and cherished books as well.

The first chapter is usually...

A move.

That's right.

A move from somewhere to somewhere else where the main protagonist's life turns upside down completely.

For example, biggest one being Twilight. From Phoenix, Arizona to a small town, Forks, Washington (I never cease to be amazed why people would name a town after cutlery. That's a discussion for later.)

That begins with Bella moving to her father's place. And many author's follow the same, sadly.

Harsh but true. Everyone is always so negative about moving. Why can't they be happy for once maybe? Say, maybe they like it more where they are moved to.

And then;

Why move anyway?

I really liked the beginning of City of Bones when it all changes for Clary when she meets Jace. Same city and yet the different world.

Hats off to Cassandra Clare.

Why not just start a normal chapter with the main protagonist doing normal things? Making tea for example. Then say, a demon appears and asks for tea. (xD Going to use this.)

Be creative! Don't seek the easy way out.

Good luck! 😃
