Dimitri's POV
Rose was fuming. I could see the perfect feral fury in her eyes. They gleamed with the desire for vengeance. Her stake was ready and poised, waiting for an opening to pierce the flesh, waiting for the blood. Only the blood of Tasha could calm the fury of Rose now.
I knew from Tasha's attempts that she had wanted to turn me again. She had wanted to own me, and rule over me as she always desired.
Tasha's dark intentions were surely too much for Rose to bear. She could never bear to lose me again to the darkness. So as expected, she, without any second thought had jumped into the fight and stood between me and Tasha.
There in her torn wedding dress, her hair loosely fluttering like a cloud, she seemed the personification of apocalypse. The stake gleamed menacingly as again and again it cut into Tasha, burning her, torturing her and Rose had no control over herself.
It was as if I was seeing the Rose, which had murdered Victor, again. It was as if I could see the darkness around her, only this time it wasn't real, It was just in her mind. It was not spirit.
I knew I had to do something. I just couldn't let her do that, which she will loathe herself again for. I had to prevent her from killing Tasha. And Tasha from causing more destruction.
Suddenly I realised that the stake, the stake in Rose's hand, it was charmed. It had spirit infused, which had the capability of bringing back the awakened.
I had to get Sonya. I looked around to see her against the wall , trembling, with a silver stake in her hand. Supporting herself, barely managing to stand, her lips moved, uttering an inaudible incantation. She was charming a stake again.
The most surprising sight apart from Rose and Tasha's fight was that Lissa, her eyes gleaming red, stood protectively in front of Sonya, taking down anyone who dared come near.
Tasha had descended on us with an army of turned ones. All the guardians were fighting and the moroi had retreated to safety. There was complete chaos and confusion around.
I had an idea. I jumped beside Rose and began to attack Tasha. Rose probably thought I would help her defeat Tasha. She became all the more enthusiastic.
But I had no such intention. Tasha was being unable to tackle us both as we pounced on her like a storm. With one mighty heave, she was on the floor with me and Rose pinning her down.
I could see the gleam of satisfaction in Rose's eyes. She was focussed on the kill. Her eyes lost all resemblance. It was as if her soul bayed for blood. I was afraid for a moment that the darkness was back.
"Rose,"I warned, "Rose, we can turn her back."
But Rose's eyes were blank. she was even unable to hear what I said.
"Lissa,"I screamed, "Bring Sonya here, we need to turn back Tasha."
Lissa was stunned for a moment. But then realising the gravity of the situation she immediately obeyed. I could see her fighting her way through the Strigoi, strong and valiant. The perfect picture of queenly courage.
The royalty in her blood shone through the mask of a Strigoi. With it showed the beauty, and the purity of the soul.
But I didn't have the chance to admire her for long as another calamity was descending on me. Rose here was going to stake Tasha.
I grappled with her, trying to disarm her. But she was like steel. She was unmoved, focussed.
"Rose," I screamed, "Rose, you are not yourself. Get a grip, Rose. We can save her. No need to destroy her."
But Rose was not willing to listen. She fought me back. It was impossible to handle both her and Tasha. Tasha was wriggling to break free.
Rose did not heed my warnings. She just picked up the stake and aimed for Tasha's heart.
In that flick of a second, I had nothing else I could think of. I knew I had to do something. I intercepted the blow with my own arm.
As the stake pierced through my flesh, I felt the searing pain, the world seemed to whirl. The stake went right through my veins as blood flowed freely. But I did not scream.
A/N Was Dimitri's decisions right? Did he need to get injured himself to save someone like Tasha? What do you think he could have done instead. Answer friends.
A Strigoi can be changed by charming a silver stake with Moroi spirit magic and piercing their heart.
