Dimitri's POV
Rose was shaking with anger and she seemed like a dormant volcano, just waiting to erupt. And I knew once it erupted, it would leave behind a trail of destruction and the immediate casualty would be Tasha and Sonya, except me.
I deftly moved to put an arm around her, gently squeezing her shoulders as a sign of support.
Surprisingly she didn't resist but instead relaxed in my arms. For a moment we stayed like that as I gently rubbed my hands over her arm, massaging gently.
"Rose, it's okay. Ignore her, we've faced greater troubles than her through the course of our relationship," I whispered in her ear.
"Definitely, I won't let this bitch spoil it anymore," she sounded determined.
Tasha was staring at her, loathing and disgust evident in her eyes. Her blue eyes were green with jealousy.
"Tasha," Rose broke away from me, moving one step towards her, "I see you won't tell us anything, so we are forced to do this, though I know it's against principles."
Rose, motioned to Sonya who moved closer.
Tasha's eyes widened. She sat still like a statue, staring at Sonya. Her eyelids soon started to droop.
Sonya staggered for a bit, losing her balance as she clutched her head.
I saw, Rose put an arm around her, comforting her, muttering encouraging words.
She rubbed her temples and focussed on Tasha again.
"Where is Lissa? What did you do to Christian? Where are your gang? What did you plan for Rose's downfall?"
Tasha bit her lips. That woman definitely possessed a, great deal of self control.
"My powers, are being weakened, I need another spirit user to balance it," Sonya, whispered.
It was then I realized that they were using compulsion to get answers out of Tasha.
I was, going to protest but though better of it, since Tasha was definitely unwielding.
"Answer her, " another voice startled me.
Adrian was using his powers and it was so strong that I could feel the effect of the spirit magic surging through the air.
"Don't use it too much. It can cause her to lose her memory," I warned, but no one was in a mood to yield.
"Broken Leg... Broken Leg Mountain," Tasha's hypnotized, groggy voice came.
"And?" Rose enquired.
"I planned for the Strigoi to let you enter the caves without any resistance. Then they would have blocked the entrance. You would have been trapped. Then they would have attacked you all at a time, taken advantage of your vulnerability and captured you all. But I instructed them not to kill you. It would be a pity to lose such trained fighters. We would have turned you, making you an excellent addition to our army," she said in a trance.
"What a shrewd planner," mumbled Rose.
"Does anyone have anything else to ask? You can ask her anything and everything," That was Adrian's voice.
"How did you escape from Tarasov?" I asked.
It was definitely a mystery for me how she could have defeated the high security system of the most notorious prison in Moroi world.
"Answer him," Adrian commanded.
"It's easy. I had outside help," she even chuckled, "Few people who were against the queen also included an unknown spirit user. They used compulsions on the guards and there was also a guardian who aided me in bribing the other guardians. Overall the growing number of my supporters and the dwindling faith on Lissa's reign was a fuel to the fire, which helped me escape. "
"Damned woman," I commented.
"Hmmm, that means Tarasov isn't safe anymore. If Tasha can escape, a lot of rebels, spirit users, insane murderers can escape too. This may lead to a havoc in the Moroi world," Rose turned to me, "We need to pass bills for a complete staff replacement and we'll send the guardians to Hans for questioning. This matter needs to be handled seriously."
This set me thinking too. Definitely the situations were growing tighter from all sides and it was getting increasingly difficult to manage on all fronts.
"Moreover the rebels are getting a good loophole now. Lissa is missing, the throne is empty. We do need someone to occupy the throne till Lissa is brought back, otherwise people will snatch the crown and usurp her title. We need someone who will take charge and yet be loyal to her, " Sonya commented.
" Jill," Rose said in a small voice,"We could put Jill on the throne. Like Dragomir blood and the next of kin kind of thing. And moreover Jill is 18 now. So she can rightfully rule."
"Jill is too young to handle royal matters, we need someone who stays close to the queen and thus knows all the royal matters," commented Adrian.
"Umm... I was thinking that if the council agrees, I would like Rosemarie Hathaway to take the throne. You shall manage all activities till Lissa is returned"
That was Sonya.
There was pin-drop silence as both I and Rose looked at each other.
What was Sonya saying?
Rose and queen?
Never!
