Dimitri's POV
I walked like a ghost, soulless, lifeless to where the ring lay on the ground.
Kneeling beside it I gently picked it up, turning it around.
Anger seared through every vein of my body as I got up and turned around to face the only person in that room, who was still left. She had creeped up behind me, and I could see the smirk on her face.
The jubilance at her success was evident in her eyes.
“You did it on purpose, didn’t you,” I screamed at the vilest creature on earth.
Her lips twisted into a cruel smile, “Divide and rule, that is my policy.”
“I should never have trusted you,” I hissed.
“I never said to. I wanted to come back to power, to seize the moroi throne. So I got Lissa out of the way and forced her to sign a bond employing me as queen in her absence. I will bring changes which will be beneficial for all. I had always wanted her as the queen. I have suffered for my cause. But she turned out to be different. What a waste,” she said calmly.
I felt like if I could wield magic, I would have turned her into ashes. Making life hell for me was something she was seeming to enjoy a lot. She had ever since cast an evil eye on our relationship.
Now she had not only ruined my wedding but also snatched away my Rose.
How would I ever get her back again? I had been an utter fool. I had ignored both Rose and Sonya who had tried to warn me.
I cursed myself.
“There is this other girl who has made life hell for me. So,” she gave a chilling smile, “I had to eliminate Rose Hathaway. I had made special arrangements for her reception when she would go to find Lissa. I had practically taken lots of effort to ensure that she does not return.”
Hearing about the cold-blooded plan to murder Rose, I was in a jumble of feelings. Fear took precedence over anger. I had to warn Rose before it is would be too late.
“Oh, by the way,” she moved closer and I instinctively moved back a step, “there is someone else who, if alive, would never let me rule in peace.”
Sure enough there was a gun in her hand and it pointed straight at me.
“Time to die, Dimitri Belikov.” She tossed back her hair, “I would kind of miss you, Dimka. I have loved you from the day we met. It's just my fate that you fell for Rose.”
“You destroyed my life by snatching away Rose. I am here, just a hollow shell. It won’t matter much. Shoot me. I won’t fight,” I said slowly, emphasizing each word.
I was exactly how I felt at that moment. I suddenly wanted nothing more than to die.
“Fine,” she gave a light lipped smile. It chilled me to the bone. I never knew Tasha could be so dangerous.
………………………………………………A shot rang out from the arch of the doorway. Tasha dropped to the floor holding her bleeding wrist and her gun lay on the floor.
“No one can hurt Dimitri as long as I am alive,” an authoritative voice declared. There was a rush of mahogany hair and chocolate eyes.
“Oh my Roza!!!!” I barely managed a whisper.
There she was, an incarnation of fire, her lips set into a kind of determination I had never seen. And for a moment I was happy that she was the one with the gun.
