The Time that never stood

I sit in the darkness,
On the dusty window pane;
Looking through the cracked windows,
At the garden that is devoid of life.
I stare at it, wondering what ruthlessness caused such a catastrophe;
A majestic tree used to stand there,
With leaves as shiny as a fine cut diamond,
And a trunk, the girth of an elephant's foot,
It stood tall and proud, hovering over the shrubs, with its leaves dancing in ecstasy.
As I look at the tree now, all that my eyes see are ashes;
The bark has been burnt in the wrath of the fire, as the tree stands limply, at the mercy of Nature.
The leaves have all burnt, tainted in the darkest brown,
As they lay lifelessly on the ground, almost as if kissing and apologising to Mother Earth.
The sight is nostalgic as I see how the passage of time ruined it;
The once sumptuous tree, now begging for mercy.
How impartial time is and how quickly it can pass by,
Life might be at its zenith but it can be snatched in the blink of an eye.
I recall what my father used to say once, "Time and tide wait for none."
And now I know:-
You may be born with a spoon so silver,
Your enigma making even the most dauntless shiver,
But what matters is the services you deliver,
For in this fragile world, we all are but sinners,
And always at the acquittal of The Giver.
