A Fleeting Illusion

We were two strangers, walking down our own paths;
Until one day, when our worlds collided almost too fast.
It felt like it might be a new start,
Little did I know that everything will come falling apart.
We were too afraid of the dark, too afraid of the light;
Too afraid of the drought and the threatening hurricane;
That made you leave even before the first drop of the morning rain.
Maybe I was too naive, and my innocence was at its crest;
Which let everything get ruined in the wake of your tempest.
You trampled me, you crushed me, you hurled me;
Yet that stupid glimmer of hope always found its way to me.
My eyes were then moist, but they have now dried;
But the shards in my heart will always remain inscribed.

I wish I knew you were not one to remain;
We went our separate ways, but that doesn't mean our paths won't ever cross again.
